This. Definitely planned drama. Rock said not pressing charges. They still gave Smith his oscar.
Smith said before the oscars he was "going to create chaos" and he did.

Pressing charges for a slap? Chris Rock is a whiny little bitch, but even he isn't going to go crying to the police about a slap.
They still gave Smith his oscar.
That's because, the show runners either didn't know how to react to this, or are just too corrupt and don't want the bad short-term PR. There has been some talk about them asking Smith to return the award, since assaulting people is against the guild's code of conduct (lol), but I doubt that'll happen.
Vid? I doubt it was staged. If it was, Rock would have used a better joke.
