Will was laughing too, until he noticed Jada wasn't. Then he flipped out. I have to think some, if not all of it, was planned to drum up a buzz about the Oscars, which interest has declined in recent years. Not as if these two aren't actors.

This slap literally saved this year's Oscars.
If you see any other part it is literally horrific.
The actual violence was far less painful than the scripted show.

Or they could just cut the terrible jokes and virtue signalling.

This. Definitely planned drama. Rock said not pressing charges. They still gave Smith his oscar.
Smith said before the oscars he was "going to create chaos" and he did.

Rock said not pressing charges.
Pressing charges for a slap? Chris Rock is a whiny little bitch, but even he isn't going to go crying to the police about a slap.
They still gave Smith his oscar.
That's because, the show runners either didn't know how to react to this, or are just too corrupt and don't want the bad short-term PR. There has been some talk about them asking Smith to return the award, since assaulting people is against the guild's code of conduct (lol), but I doubt that'll happen.
Vid? I doubt it was staged. If it was, Rock would have used a better joke.

If the Oscars start holding fights between entitled celebrity assholes...I admit, I'll definitely watch that.
