A system where downvotes simply rank the content and do nothing to the poster would be like reddit without crazy jannies. Yes, everything political and profitable is doomed to be controlled by bad agents, but at least regular people can speak.
past the initial troll filter
A filter capable of keeping especially dumb kids off the site may seem like a good thing, but it will annoy regular users. And those kids could always just buy an account.

I wouldn't be annoyed if users below 110 IQ were filtered out here, but I also use those other sites where retardation reigns. (although use less and less) Again, I'm glad it's not my problem to solve. Maybe it can't be solved.
