I'll ask proof on everything and everyone. And I never stop at or trust Wikipedia, but it's my first stop for the "official" story after DuckDuckGo.

I stand behind the excellent character I've seen of /u/EndlessSunflowers, even if this post's wording was poor, the central claim seems baseless, and the goal and motivations seem nebulous. IMO this was a poor post with good intentions in a problematic time of more engineered division than ever, possibly resulting in this unexpected feedback blowup over the last 4 hours.

The OP is shitty in some respects to be sure - because it's poorly phrased and leaves open room for debate. However, part of it is sadly very true regarding the scalp bounties and pejorative term. Regarding the link between the term and scalps, I can't be bothered to research it. And if that's the only thing you object to, forgoing all the other information, then that's your loss.

Agreed. The settlers picked it up and made scalp-capitalism out of it.

I'm in favour of changing offensive names, but not by mandate or pressure from engineered political correctness. Sometimes it's just time to update those old clothes.

Which parts? Bounties on scalps is real. Pejorative terms exist. I can's speak to the a couple of the specifics word choices - for example "A 'redskin' is the scalped head of a Native American" should be "scalp from a head" otherwise it implies they're carrying around bald beheaded heads. I also haven't looked into ties between the term and the scalps.

i was referring to op's claim that a redskin is the scalped head of a native american. i know bounties on scalps existed, and i know pejorative terms exist.
