Voat was kind of cool at first until the white supremacists took over. They didn't want to have limits. I noped out of there when they didn't want to control it.

I feel there should be a LINE. I work in the hood and have a lot of complaints about the people there that would get me banned from other sites. I'm not a white supremacist. I feel like generally, as long as you have a point to make and aren't pushing an agenda, it should be allowed. The minute you do start pushing one, that is when you should hit the door.

Also, I've noticed that a large portion of the people who live on the extremes lack social skills. I've spent a lot of online time with anarchists, anti-civ /post-civ people and the like. They are often picking fights, trying to wring each other through purity tests, and just being jerks. I think it is less about the ideas and more about being the type of person who can, or who wants, to live on the edge.

Ive felt that "purity test" in Reddit subs related to those topics. Its a sin to have a discussion to help form your own opinions more solidly. I relaized few of those people have true ideals of an ungoverned society and want to control each other through "debate". Odysee has been a much better place for those discussion, but normally on the backs of videos on comments sections. What communities here exist to have these types of discussions?

The racists and antisemites seem to be attempting to take over every new platform that don't outright ban them. They've already taken strong root here on Saidit unfortunately. I don't know what the option is, as I'd like this community to be as free a place for open dialogue and ideas as possible, but as it slowly morphs into another Voat, I'm not interested in sticking around. Hopefully the admins will come up with a solution and intervene somehow. Even if it's to purge some of the more active hardcore racists off the site so that the community can become more diverse.

What part of "free speech" don't you understand, commie?

[–]Double_A 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

Because they are the main group that benefits from an actual free speech platform.

If you are some random normie you don't care and just consume memes. And even if you somehow make it here, literally the first thread on the front page is some antisemitic bullshit.

If you are a lefty you are already welcome on the mainstream platforms.

So if you are here you either are a troll, have some controversial or crazy views, or are straight up a full nazi.

And which are you?

[–]Double_A 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Idk... I'm kinda libertarian, so generally welcoming of such platforms. But they never work out because they are instantly taken over by the "loudest" extremist views... which drives away anyone else.

[–]rdanneskjold 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No, everyone benefits from a free speech platform. Freedoms are always tested against the least popular groups first. The fact that they are the first to show up elsewhere follows naturally. The more bannings take place, the more interesting this community will become. Until a tipping point is reached, and the average user prefers the freedom.

[–]Double_A 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

But the average person doesn't "use" their freedoms... So they won't be bothered to look for extra freedom on those platforms. So you will only have people with somewhat exterme or controversial opinions on here, and only those that are willing to publicly discuss those.

Basically to be here you need to have a good reason and motivation, which the general public doesn't have. And one doesn't randomly stumble upon this out of boredom...

I think the solution is simple.

Overt hate-speech should be removed. It falls into the same category as the bottom of the pyramid of debate. However, if someone is making logical arguments and not regurgitating racist drivel, they should be allowed to speak.

It’s really not that complicated. 100% freedom is never sane. You need a small amount of regulation to keep the crazy in check.

[–]King_Brutus 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

What, in your mind, is "hardcore racism"? Because on Reddit it was as benign as "hey black people do bad things too and here is proof" then BAN. I agree that I don't want it to devolve into a place with no discussion and just hate but I think free speech should mean that the line of what is acceptable be pushed and the onus of not engaging with content that makes you uncomfortable is on the user and not the site unless it's 1) illegal or 2) breaks sitewide rules (of which in its later life Reddit made far too easy).

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Saying that you think black people or the black community isn’t civil or whatever is fine. I don’t agree with that strongly and we all should be able to discuss that freely. However, if someone is just posting your typically “niggers and jews” statements then it doesn’t need to be heard. There are places like voat where users can go talk like that.

[–]Jinrocker 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The worst part of it was retroactively banning subs/individuals for things that abided by the rules at the time. There is a reason that ex post facto laws are forbidden via the constitution. Changing rules to "get" somebody or something retroactively is down right dirty and abhorrent in every way.

Go back to reddit.

[–]Pants 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Bro. What the fuck happened to voat?

It started of fine. I always read online, mainstream shit, that it was the "New White Supremacist."

Checked it out. Fucking nothing. But for years it's been advertised, by outsiders as Nazi Central. Surely actual racists saw that and took over.

[–]bagano1 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I haven't been there in a long time. When you say "nothing", what do you mean? Is it abandoned? Or is it still like I said?

[–]Pants 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

In the past, no trace of THE FOURTH REICH, UBER HITLER!

But over time, the NeoNazi found their way and populated the site.

[–]Article10ECHR 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Voat is not as popular now but it has more to do with Reddit being okay for most until a ahort time ago.

And its Androis app not being updated since like 2017.

I mean, I live in a liberal city and listen to NPR all of the time and esp with the BLM protests as of late I noticed that it’s become totally mainstream to shit on white ppl (my white friends even do it, it’s bizarre) and when I started questioning why it’s okay to do so while white ppl are basically becoming minorities in their own countries but not okay to comment on any other group I got frustrated and wanted a place to talk about it, yet any place that talks about it is labeled as “white supremacist” and immediately banned from the internet. So I guess I don’t really consider myself a white supremacist, more just annoyed at getting shit on in an unfair manner (many would debate about what is fair of course)

Disclaimer: yes I understand there are some real white supremacists who actually promote violence and I’m not endorsing those folks. More like I’m just shocked that it’s fine to dump on white ppl on Reddit/other sites but unacceptable for other groups. It should be we either shit on everyone or no one lol. Hence the reason I understand why those people move to “free speech” type sites

Mossad was all over that place. So many disinformation agents and shills posting perception management that I gave up.

[–]Jesus 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Probably half if not more of those white supremacists were bots.

[–]Middernag 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Already calling for censorship of people who dare to question Jews. Just like my post predicted, Saidit will become reddit because of these types of people. There's no curing this, the only solution is what Voat does to people like this.

[–]bagano1 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Saidit doesn't want to be reddit though. Reddit got ruined by misguided high school twits.

[–]Middernag 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, by misguided twits like you that started limited what people were allowed to talk about or criticize little by little. You're the problem, don't kid yourself into believing that people haven't already taken note of you and your propaganda.
