Why are there no browsers that are not based on Chromium or Firefox?

Technocracy.

Instead of having standardized protocols they want standardized browsers as they're easier to control.

Solution: Decentralize All Things - including browser development.

I'd do it myself but I don't code and there's just not enough time for me to save the world.
