I haven't used FreeBSD, but from what I have read about it, it sounds promising. When MacOS becomes unusable, as it inevitably will since it is being maintained by Silicon Valley scum, I will try FreeBSD. Of course Linux is modern crap maintained by modern scum to be avoided at all costs.
