To prevent to be locked into group-think, you could have a look at the observations (or experiences) of other people with different ideas. Sometimes you have "never thought of that".
There are also many people stuck into a certain belief, like Scientism.

That is true. But if you leave yourself too open then you are vulnerable to people who only wish to exploit you rather than improve you. So it requires a balance
