Seems like a cash grab to me. They wanted to continue their vacation instead of burying gramps. Predictably, gramps got stale.
It's a cruise ship, FFS- no place for a dead man, nor the people who are supposed to be mourning him.

According to the article, there's supposed to be a morgue on board but it wasn't operational.
