I don't think either of those companies are on the side of freedom, but the commercial was engineered to appeal to that sentiment of the time. It just goes to show the mindset back then.

I'm glad they did, otherwise everyone might be using iOS right now.

The commercial was engineered to appeal to Apple's idea of itself. "We're smashing the tyranny! Free speech for all!" Something they were never for, they were only in favor of their own tyranny. That's why they took everyone who tried to make an Apple clone and sued them into bankruptcy. Apple clone computers did briefly exist and today command a high price in the collector's market.
