Yep, and West Africa religions were up there with the Aztecs when it comes to human sacrifice. There are good reasons from abandoning those beliefs. With Christianity you can convert those old blood thirsty gods to saints, as happened in Europe, and keep their lessons without having to give sacrifice.

and christianity started because john the baptist said you didn't need to give animals to the temple as sacrafice, which was costly for poor jews. He said you could just dunk your head in water. The high priests made up the religion as a way to get free food from dumb peasants.

Before they sacrificed animals they sacrificed people. The move to animals was progress at the time.

true yep. I think they also ate the people they sacraficed. The eucharist, where you eat what is symbolically the body of christ, is a vestige of that, and was started to say you could do this instead of eating people now, and drink wine instead of drinking blood. Orthodox jews probably don't like all these changes.
