The tech for renewable energy is actually woefully inadequate. Nuclear is the greenest stopgap we have at the moment as far as the grid is concerned because of it's high yield to investment ratio, but electric cars are mobile so need lithium batteries and there's nowhere near enough to meet demand at a 5-year life cycle, and the methods of extracting the needed materials to make lithium batteries is far from green.

Wind turbines generate power cheaper than, and not subject to the price variation of fossil fuels. What do you claim makes them "inadequate"?

Nuclear is certainly useful for baseload. But it's not cheaper than wind. Or hydro. Or geothermal.

but electric cars are mobile so need lithium batteries and there's nowhere near enough to meet demand at a 5-year life cycle

Manufacturers guarantee batteries for 8 years. Lifecycle is 10-20 years. New technology should recover almost 70% of the lithium from a spent battery.

and the methods of extracting the needed materials to make lithium batteries is far from green.

You only get a local environmental impact. So it's a lot better than global warming.
