I also wonder if the theoretical threat of quantum computing is over-hyped
Being able to defeat any existing encryption is fairly powerful. 56K bitcoin might be a bit overpriced when a quantum computer could have its way with the addresses and blockchain. Much of the worlds financial system might be a toy in the hands of a quantum computer.
It doesn't appear we're there yet, but the MIC doesn't exactly share its secrets with the masses.

In the hands of the wrong people it could be more devastating than nukes. Either it's science fiction hype or not. Either way it's their goal and the race is on. First one to cross the line wins.
The MIC has also been known to overplay their hand and/or hype stuff up. We live in a panopticon and they're tracking and tracing everything, allegedly, but they haven't fully utilized it - yet. We're all supposed to be submissive locked-down mask-wearing debt-slaves but I won't change for them.

Every system needs some nogoodniks to use as examples of what not to be. Given that you're probably just as not a member of the 1300 people who own 94% of the worlds wealth as me, the future is looking pretty dystopian.

There are nogoodniks and there are "nogoodniks" and there are those calling others nogoodniks who are likely nogoodniks too.
I concur. Worse and worse, yet the hope shines brighter and brighter. There will be casualties. I don't know how but I would like to see the 1% get their fair share too.
