Did you listen to this? Brand says "It would be very nice to meet you one day" (as in they hadn't met and were not friends) to which Saville made the comment about bringing his sister which Brand replied (clearly joking) that he could bring an employee.

As you stated this was 5 years before Saville's crimes were exposed. If interviewing the man once and making a joke that is tasteless in hindsight makes him friends with Saville and by extension a rapist then what are we to think of the Royal family the British government and BBC who supported him for 6 decades including Margaret Thatcher who entertained him at her home and called for him to be knighted?

Prince Charles was close to him and sought his public relations advice. Princess Diana was just a phone call away. And former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher entertained him at her country home and pushed for him to be knighted.
