buy the meat and produce and spend the time and effort maximizing your income

And that itself is a trap: putting your faith in money. Buying food with money.... Working for money....

For the love of money is the root of all evil. The currency of today will soon be replaced with the mark of the beast. All those people who spent their life maximizing their accounts, while ignoring the needs of their poor fellow mankind, will suffer great loss. They will sell their soul to the beast for a little food. They will also turn into beasts: killing and stealing from their fellow man for scraps. Chaos is coming.

The solution is neither money nor farming. The solution, which a man named Christian could have given but I never heard him do so: Be a true Christian.... trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who promises all who come to him shall not hunger and all who believe in him shall not thirst.

You can't eat money.

First, you don't need faith in money for it to work. I am not advocating hoarding cash for the sake of hoarding cash. But you have to be a fool to not understand that money is power and you need power to get anything done. If you want to resist tyranny you will need assets, and those assets can be bought.

The point is you have to be smart about it. You have to understand that if you spend 20% of your available time farming 20 eggs a week, you get 20 eggs a week and 1 rotisserie chicken a month and it costs you money for feed, takes up space, smells up your living area, etc. If you spen that time picking up overtime at $50/hr you can buy 200 eggs a week and 10 chickens. Or buy rice in buckets that will last 20 years, buy a multi fuel generator, buy a cabin away from people and pandemics, buy a camper you can use for vacations or bugging out, and on and on.

And that is just the lowest level doomer option that changes nothing and has a 1% chance of ever being relevant.

The real threat is the brainwashing of everyone around you and your own kids if you have any. To save them you need to change the education system. You need to provide them with safe media. You need to provide them with intelligent counseling. You need to teach them and provide them with experiences that will shape them into strong capable thinking adults. That takes money.

God has blessed me to have money to buy what I need today. He has been generous to give me more food than I could possibly eat. When the currencies of this world become worthless, I will continue to trust in the Lord.

All currencies will be replaced. The US dollar is doomed. The mark of the beast will take its place. Those that take it are damned. But there is hope in Jesus Christ who can help you regardless of the status of money. God does not need money to bless you. But you need to have faith in him to receive it.

Has God given you the courage and wisdom to help and lead your fellow man? Or do you plan to live alone, wrapped in a blanket of self congratulatory faith? Is there no passage in your scripture that commands you do more than pay lip service and virtue signal a loyalty in expectation of some reciprocal protection from the all powerful?

Faith can give you courage to do dangerous things that need to be done, or it can make you complacent in the face of imminent threat. Which is better?

jesus said to sell everything you own and to follow him, but instead people like to run their mouths telling others how godly they are.

What happens when a man gives away all the money he has to those more poor than himself? Do you know?

What happens when a man gives away all the money he has to those more poor than himself? Do you know?

i have known a few people that sold everything they own so that they could focus on following jesus.

the result was that their life was more rich than before they sold their possessions.

did jesus say to sell everything you own and to follow him?

ChatGPT Yes, in the Bible, specifically in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus does instruct a wealthy young man to sell everything he owns and follow him. This story is found in Mark 10:17-31. In this passage, a rich young ruler asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him to sell all his possessions, give the money to the poor, and then come and follow him. However, the young man becomes sorrowful because he has great wealth and finds this command difficult to follow. This narrative is often interpreted as an illustration of the challenge of prioritizing spiritual values over material possessions.

Let's say you didn't know these few people before they gave everything away. If you met them at their latter state, being now "more rich", would it be wrong to tell them to give everything away? They could look at you and say, "We already did!"

They squander it and both are poor.

You don't believe that God will bless the one who gave it all away? Unless you try it, you won't know. That is why the Lord says to prove him and see that he is good.

You may find peace in asceticism and call that a blessing but I see that as justifying a belief and not evidence that you are correct. I will take my blessings in the form of sirloin streak, and measure my virtue by how much good I have done and not how much I have caused myself to suffer.

I'm going to say something that may hurt your feelings and cause you to dismiss what I have to say out of hand, but I hope it will stay with you and one day you can truly consider it. I think that the mentality of earning something, be it blessings or a spot in heaven or God's favor, through sacrifice is arrogant and narcissistic especially when that sacrifice has no real utility. You are striking a bargain with someone who has no input in the deal on the premis that the words you read and interpreted yourself are a contract which binds God. That Jesus told some rich guy he should change his life in a particular way does not constitute a contract offer to everyone in perpetuity that they can abdicate all responsibility to effect positive change by throwing away their possessions and power to say "I have nothing left with which to do good, but I have faith so give me my blessings". I don't think that is something that should be rewarded. I don't think that is a noble way to act.

You may find peace in asceticism

I don't even know what that means. I find peace in knowing that the Almighty God loves me, as he also loves you, and he is willing to help us when we turn to him in faith. The enemy can do nothing without his consent.

I am not offended by you. I sense you are not trying to be my enemy, but we are not in agreement.

The sacrifice is not about an arrogant self-entitlement, but a humble admission: I am a weak man and alone I am nothing. I have sinned and need forgiveness. Only with God's sacrifice can I be reconciled to God, through Jesus.

You do not remember your life before you came here, do you? I will tell you something that most do not know about the guilt of mankind. The spirits in heaven rebelled against God and followed his adversary Lucifer, yet they knew God. They chose darkness over light. Every man on earth voluntarily separated himself from God. When the spirits wake up from this dream life, they will have overwhelming guilt when they realize what they have done. They rebelled against God, their Father, whom they knew. The only way to be reconciled to God is to see him in the man Jesus Christ and receive him as their Lord God.

As you said, we have free will. Your short life here is a test of that freedom. God removed your memory so that you would be free to choose. If you remembered your past life, you would be coerced to follow God out of fear. God wants you to choose him because of love, not fear. People that reject Jesus are rejecting God a second time and there is no more sacrifice that God can make that is superior to that of Jesus.

Sell, not give away. That is a very important distinction when you start to think about it. Like everything in the scriptures you can make of that what you want.

I believe that to be good you must do good. Selling the distractions to fund the effort makes sense. Turning into a hermit to pray to the sky does not.

[–]In-the-clouds[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

He said sell and give to the poor.

He did not say to give to the rich or to fatten the pastors that he did not call to preach in his name. Give to those more poor than yourself and truly you will be blessed.

Your idea of being free from distractions is another plus. But prayer is powerful. Taking time to be quiet and listen for God to speak is good. Reading and listening to God's word is another thing a man can do if he has less distractions. Our enemy keeps us busy with distractions of all kinds.

Faith without works is dead.

Is there no passage in your scripture....

The scriptures are for all mankind, for you also. You can also read them and be blessed by living accordingly. Every man must give an account to God for how he lived his life, on the day of judgement. I told you the source of hope which is available to everyone. And it's not money.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

The way I see it scriptures are written by men to control men. We can speculate on the nature of God, on the utility of faith, but I think it is simply foolish to believe that it is the word of God. No reasonable God would expect faith on the basis of such an easily corruptible system.

I think people who "live by the book" actually live by their own interpretation of the book, or an interpretation that they have been indoctrinated with, and you can spin the words to justify just about anything. If it inspires you to be good, to be brave, and you find motivation in it to take good actions then it is a good book but not by the action of God but by your own actions.

That is why I challenge the faithful live to a higher standard.

Faith without works is dead.

These words were always there, yet your previous comment indicates that you ignore them to justify complacency and sloth on the basis that faith will save you in the end.

We all shape the world with our contribution. Even if you are dead set on believing in destiny surely you must agree that we still have free will and that it matters. That on a sinking ship it is better to embrace in friendship and join together in song and celebration of life rather than devolve into violence. In the eternal after you can reminisce about your glorious victories over evil in the final years or wish you didn't waste your time on earth simply being.

[–]In-the-clouds[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

you ignore them to justify complacency and sloth

Is that fair? You really think I want people to be lazy? Trusting in God is not the same as ceasing activity. God wants all of us to be lovingly active. The more good deeds you do for your poor neighbor, the more merciful God will be to you. Every man shall reap what he sows. If a man sows sparingly, he will also have little to reap. I am not saying to be inactive, but I am encouraging you to give up the selfish mind-set of hording more money for yourself, only to see it all disappear when the mark of the beast comes. Then you will have no choices left except: God or the beast.

you must agree that we still have free will and that it matters.

Yes, I agree with that. That is why each of us has to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Your choices matter. My choices matter. But I cannot choose for you.

The way I see it scriptures are written by men to control men.

If that were true, why don't the rulers of this world force us to read the Bible? Instead, teachers in the government-run schools get in trouble for simply having a Bible on their desk.

What controls men is fear and hopelessness. The rulers of this world have an easy time controlling us if they can get us to abandon our hope in the Lord who gave himself for us on the cross. They don't want us to see his words of life.

If that were true, why don't the rulers of this world force us to read the Bible?

Because it was written by men long dead for time long past. The stories used by modern rulers are written for our time, and are equally unquestionable. For example it is illegal in most European countries to question the holocaust.

[–]In-the-clouds[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Many of those men long dead were killed for spreading the words in the Bible.

The rulers of this world have always hated the Word.
