This "research" is predicated on the notion that the conspiracy beliefs are "unfounded conspiracies".

Well in the case of the studies, yes, the researchers did have the facts available to them.

If the participants had come to believe a fake non-factual conspiracy theory then it's correct to call them "unfounded conspiracies"
