Facts can be proven. For example "the pictures in the holocaust museum are fake". This is a fact and can be proven.

Motivation can almost never be proven. But not being able to prove the motivation for why fake pictures are used does not change the facts.

It is, at best, a distraction from the facts to speculate on motive. The motive doesn't matter.
