There were several leaders of the Roman Catholic Church that helped cover up sexual abuse cases of around 300 priests involving children over a period of 70 years.

The entire hierarchy of the church has been approaching the sexual abuse problem by hiding it. Either to protect the image of the church, or because they're involved.

The whole idea of having the church run by virgins is supposed to get crazy-holy people, but that's fully backfired. The place is thick with perverts, and those that aren't don't have sufficient experience in normal sexual development to grasp the extent of the horror that they are visiting on their flock.
