That is so funny and catastrophic at the same time.

PCR = Positive Covid Result, for any virus.

They test for small RNA-residues of viruses, and multiply them to immense amounts by using far too many cycles (>25). The small RNA-residues can be of different viruses and of dead viruses. And in most countries the tests looks at some features, common between viruses. The SARS-Cov2 virus is still based on a computer model, and has not been isolated.

You can get positive results in many ways. Especially if there is a different corona-virus (cold) present, or if there is some very small contamination.

The testing-companies are private or unchecked, and positive tests will give demand for more new tests. So we see the Cobra-effect in action.

I thought this might get posted to saidit (after seeing it on Reddit), especially without an understanding of the article. Simply put: social distancing and masks reduce the potential for the flu to spread, and those who were susceptible to getting the flu insead got COVID19 this past year (because IT has been spreading). Don't try to conflate the two illnesses. They're spread in a similar way, but only one of them is likely to cause respiratory failure.

/u/socks quite possibly has come up with the dumbest covid post yet. I'm still searching so you may lose the title.
