The trouble is there pressure to lockdown and panic has all come from ordinary people, most governments were dragging their feet. We just have a whole load of anxious people who are just looking for any excuse to panic and lock themselves in their room for months. And it's often the least at risk, young, people spreading panic the most.

I know 3 people who have locked themselves in their rooms and are convinced they will die of covid if they interact with anyone. They are all male, with social phobias, gamers and 2 are under 18. They are all spending their days on social media venting their panic, accusing the government of trying to kill people, etc because they have nothing else to worry about. This democratic is heavily represented online so it makes it seem like the public are demanding a heavy lock down, masks and authoritarian measures when actually its a minority of scared basement dwellers.
