I see two sides without being in favor of either. Yes, there are idols around but they serve as creative references to something objective in a time period. People imply subjectivities and the hysteria for worship or removal of them.

Mount Rushmore for example is a reference to the forefathers, some people will be angered, while others not so much. Learning of the reference is enough, questioning the intent behind idols is fine. Disagreeing with an artifact is understandable. But outright destruction of it is unnecessary, right along with its devout worship. Individuals have spent time crafting it to some artistic appeal, least anyone could do is just respect the artistic hard work and move on.

If anything else, all this destruction and hysteria is immaturity and rage expressing itself to (possibly) later detriment.
