I worked in scientific research myself and can tell you some people care much more about securing the next grant than the truth. Not everyone of course, there are many scientists that take the scientific method seriously, but there is a reproducibility crisis for many studies, especially in psychology.

There is not much funding for repeat studies, or studies that disprove other studies. Everyone wants the new breakthrough study.
