Someone else has already given you a handful of examples, there are hundreds more. There's no point in fooling ourselves and pretending one side of the political spectrum as a monopoly on censorship, especially if you're truly interested in fighting against it.

there are hundreds more

You should be able to easily cite them, then.

This is the most bizarre argument I've had on this website so far. People claiming that left-wing censorship isn't a problem, and that right-wing censorship is not only equally prevalent, but equally effective.

The anti-free speech rhetoric I've seen out of the left these past few years has been vehement and overwhelming. Remember the Berkeley Anti-Free Speech Riot of 2017? When a man was threatened with bodily harm just for wanting to speak some words? Speech that offends is actually violence, and we've seen activists use actual violence to stop it - and to defend this as self-defense-when authorities fail to do so. Do you need even more than the ones already given to you and am I really supposed o believe you have no knowledge of right wing censorship throughout the world and even different eras? Come now.

You must be having that discussion by yourself then, my point was that both left wing and right wing are doing it.

You still haven't cited any examples. The 90s, really?

[–]Quixoticfutz 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Yeah because someone else alreayd has and if you're ignoring that it means you don't really care for examples, you'd just plug your ears and dimiss them as you're alreay doing, besides, anyone that claims not to be aware of any examples of right wing censorship is either a newborn (which you don't seem to be) or is actively in denial and lying. Thus, what's the point?

That which is presented without evidence may be dismissed without evidence.

I can see you're unused to the pyramid of debate, in which unfounded claims cannot be made. It's a big change from reddit.

Ahahahah you have had evidence given to you by another user and chose to ignore it, that makes this act you're tying to put on of master debater funny at best and utterly sad at worst. Worse still when you choose to pretend many right wing govs throughout history and even today don't freely censor news, books, etc.

You can act disingenous and pretend public knowledge and history have no weight without links but really, you're just fooling yourself and showing how out of depth you truly are in this discussion.

It's easy not to fall in to cultish behavior and thought, look "both right wing and left wing movements have been using censorship to further their agendas", see? Easy, just accept reality instead of this sports-like "choose your team" kind of stupidity, that's one way to make sure we'll never achieve anything.

All I asked was for citations to back up your claims, and I get a long string of comments without any citations.

Instead I get personal attacks, the bottom of the pyramid of debate.

Free speech isn't a left-wing value. They freely censor, and this is not a secret.

[–]Quixoticfutz 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Again with the personal attacks, do you not know what it is or does everyone disagreeing with you launching an attack in your view?

Why should I post more links? You already have others doing it i this very thread and chose to close your eyes and ignore them, and then you think pretending to be ignorant of history like book burning, for example, and even about what is happening right now thinking it'll help. If it wasn't so ridiculous it'd be more funny.

Not it is not, the difference between us is that I'm not cultish nor choosing this like sports teams, I have no need to deny the reality that both left and right wing are doing it right now.

OK, is free speech a left-wing value? I have been assured repeatedly and vehemently that it is not.

Former ACLU legal director and Berkeley law professor John A. Powell recently told a reporter from the New Yorker that absolutist free speech rules in the United States fail to weigh the value of speech against the harms that speech can cause, and argued that we ought to regulate speech that can cause P.T.S.D. and "stereotype threat."

Is Reddit pro-free speech? Why or why not?
