This can only help the inflation problem. In fact, I'm sure if this was to be implemented all problems and Canada would be solved. It would also solve climate change.

A few observations:

  • First, if everyone over 17 in the country gets a guaranteed $17K no matter what, who's paying for that bill? I'll tell you who - people with jobs through a tax rate that's going to guarantee all they will be able to afford to live in will be cardboard boxes.
  • Canadian Senators are no longer officially politically affiliated, though they are appointed by the PM of the day. The senator who sponsored this idea is a member of the Canadian Pride Caucus, which amongst other things indicates she's likely pretty far left. The other sponsor is an MP with the NDP, our socialist party.
  • The chances of this actually being implemented as law in Canada are approximately one snowball's chance in hell, however...
  • If Trudeau does decide to stick around to fight the next election, you can be sure he'll use it as a key part of his platform, then he'll abandon it like he did his promise on Proportional Election Representation back at the start of his reign.
