Seems outrageous, but I can also see it from the court's point of view. They're like "Here's a guy who's never told anyone he's a pacifist, who plays PUBG as a hobby, and now that it's time for his service he's suddenly like 'I'm a pacifist.'"

Like, if that's the standard, that basically means no one has to serve. Three words will get you out of it.

The court also pointed to the man’s love of PUBG as further evidence he wasn’t against war and violence.

“The defendant admitted that he frequently enjoyed playing the game ‘Battlegrounds,’ which is about killing characters with guns in a virtual reality,”

They're specifically saying that because he plays violent videogames he must not be opposed to war, which is an absurd claim. And yes, many conscientious objectors have gone to prison for their convictions.
