The rain of sparks are like burning metal pieces. Could be bits of lithium spread in the air.
In military explosives it is usually Magnesium that spark like that.
Maybe it was a battery factory? Or battery recycling?

That's a massive explosion.
Something exploded. Maybe with batteries.

depleted uranium makes nice sparkly explosions too. it wasn't likely that, and it was certainly not car batteries.
