Lawsuit?

This should be a criminal matter. That's assault.

JFC...

I don't know if legal remedies will correct what's wrong with those teachers, but we're not allowed to talk about that.

Yeah they should be getting charged with unlawful imprisonment at least. You cant hold someone against their will at school holy shit. I hope they get a fat settlement.

What kind of a loser even cares if eighth graders vape? Are there not enough real fucking problems to worry about?

They would be suing me after I got out of jail for beating them half to death.

Something like this happened at a local school. A few redneck fathers got ahold of the teacher that did it and beat the living shit out of him. His eyes don't look at the same things anymore.

It doesn’t matter how much money you throw at an idiot, it won’t make them smart. The real problem is the incentive structures and schools of education.

I have never been made to strip in an airport, maybe it's because you're brown.

This is what happens when you fill the schools with a bunch of liberals who want to read children stories about gay sex, who want to confuse kids' sense of gender. Are we shocked that such people don't mind strip searching children for a silly vape pen?

Reading the article, it’s even worse than it sounds. The student in question was totally honest with the principal about the vape pen, had a reputation for being a good and honest person, and was still strip searched when they didn’t find it in either of her lockers.

Mind you, this is a vape pen, not a knife or something immediately dangerous. Should middle schoolers be vaping? No. But it’s also not like she was letting another kid keep weed or pills in her locker.

This was not about protecting the health and safety of the students, it was about adults, who should know better, needing to “win” against some dumb middle schoolers and find their vape pen.

My middle and high school days are almost 30 years in the rear view, but the stuff I hear happening in schools now almost never happened when I was that age. Sure, there were some overzealous administrators but there were procedures in place for dealing with students and they were followed. They took their en loco parentis responsibilities seriously and knew there were lines they couldn’t cross. Now the schools treat children like property and can do what they please with them.

My only criticism is that you seem to be wearing rose colored glasses when you think about the past. It has gotten worse, but it had already started then.

While this is bad, I don't have much respect for people who throw the word traumatised around when they mean upset.

You don't think a strip search is traumatic? The raw exercise of arbitrary prison-like power with sexual overtones to me definitely qualifies as "trauma". This would be terrifying, well beyond "upset".

    [–]Musky 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Think of an adult version of this. If your male boss (school principal analog) claimed you were stealing, and detained you in a room against your will so a woman could strip search you, also against your wishes, AND you'd have to see these people every day for years acting as though they did nothing wrong, who thought they were appropriately exercising their authority over you, when they frankly probably not-so-secretly enjoyed doing it... you don't think that'd be slightly traumatizing?

Maybe it's just that Americans are more prudish, but we don't expect to be subjected to something that has bondage vibes to it against our will. At least if you get strip searched in jail it feels impersonal, professional, and detached. It's part of their jobs. School employees aren't supposed to strip down teen girls and search them. And it's always only the girls.

I'm curious what the camera surveillance situation was like too. I wouldn't be shocked if it was on a security recording.

This is a 13 year old kid who was strip searched by adults over a fucking vape pen. The same adults who are supposed to be looking after her well being while at school. If you don’t think that can cause some major emotional and trust issues in a child, I don’t know what else to tell you.

    [–]jet199 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Kids have to change clothes around those same adults every time they play sports.

    No they dont.

Kids also get gender reassigned at school without their parents knowing it. Schools need reform.

Honestly, I wouldn't hold it against the mother, her household, or community for killing the teachers. That's pure pedophilia.

Grown adults forcing a 13/14 year old girl to strip is not some form of sexual assault? What right does any school have to do this? You couldn't do this as a cop. I hope they all go to jail. What's more damaging, a strip search of a minor or a vape pen?

    [–]weavilsatemyface 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

The teachers need to think about proportionality: is the process worse than the sin?

    • The alleged sin - another girl brings vape pen to school. Hands it over to second girl who puts it in her locker. Level of badness: 1 out of 10.
    • The process: invasive search of the second girl, a young teen, stripping her to her underwear and humiliating her. Level of badness: 4 out of 10.

And they didn't even find the vape pen, because the student had been completely honest about it in the first place!

Even if she had the vape pen on her, that would not have justified a strip search of an underage school student. Teachers are supposed to be in loco parentis not loco.
