The proposed site for the Europe’s biggest lithium mine is on the bank of the Korenita River

The eastern side of Ukraine has some incredibly massive open pit mines on the edge of rivers. Looks like the pollution in those regions is equally massive, as seen in many drone views on google maps streetview. You wouldn't want to live anywhere near that.
