I'd feel similarly if the apartheid, ethnic cleansing, oppression, U.S. military backing, and unconditional political support from the U.S. wasn't a thing.

But it is, and so I'd look forward to the U.S. providing the same amount of support to the other side, the Palestinians.

Absolute nonsense comment. I like RFK Jr but he needs to step down, stop running for president, and join the ADL already. This is ludicrous.

Gross, but not at all surprising.

"Unprovoked" - there's that word again. I've seen that word being used by people who support the most corrupt country in all of Europe and current favorite US proxy prop to paint those people as good honest caretakers of "democracy".

Bobby, all you had to do was call for peace. Even just de-escalation. Not get sucked into the heat of the moment...

At any rate, his tweet, despite calling for policy that's "unambiguous", is anything but.

  • He expresses support for Israel's right to self-defense. Fine, okay, just like any other nation state.

  • "... we must follow through with unwavering, resolute, and practical action." Which means what exactly? Increase in already substantial aid money? MIC hardware? US soldiers stationed in Israel? Pre-emption Regime change Full-scale invasion of Palestine?

The tweet is just hot air and I don't see any follow-up so far.

Edit: Not a dealbreaker for me, but getting pretty damn close. At the very least, I don't see myself donating anymore.

Though I have deep reservations about Israel's treatment of Palestinians, that's not a line in the sand for me while he gets so much else right, imo. I find his statement disappointing but not surprising.

I find his statement disappointing but not surprising.

I'm against his statement, and while it disappoints me, I'm also filled with a strange sense that he might actually be a more viable candidate overall because of it, and that his campaign is more real, even as an independent candidate, than I had thought (in spite of my hopes).

It is a line in the sand for me when taking into account what this means when it comes to what he'd be doing if elected. This isn't just about Palestine.

That level of fanatical unconditional and unquestioning support for a terrorist state, when added to the power that the Zionist lobby has in the US, means that he'd obey them first and only start caring about all the things he's getting right afterwards, if allowed.

Which would make him just another establishment authoritarian warmonger.

This affects his positions on everything else, because his willingness to do anything else would be conditioned on whether nobody from that lobby tells him not to do it because Israel wants it so.

I can see the reasoning that brings you to that conclusion. It's early days in this round of election theater for me. I see zero chance of important change through the ballot box. All I know now, and have known since 2016, is that I won't be voting for either duopoly flavor, if I vote top of ticket at all. I'm still listening to RFK Jr. when he aims at deserving targets, and I'd listen to Jill Stein if she sought the Green nomination again.

I see zero chance of important change through the ballot box.

Oh absolutely, this is all purely rhetorical, he's not going to be elected anyway.

Which kinda makes this even worse. He's pre-rolling over and announcing his willingness to be controlled by absolutely abhorrent special interests... for no reason whatsoever.

Full tweet:

This ignominious, unprovoked, and barbaric attack on Israel must be met with world condemnation and unequivocal support for the Jewish state’s right to self-defense. We must provide Israel with whatever it needs to defend itself — now. As President, I’ll make sure that our policy is unambiguous so that the enemies of Israel will think long and hard before attempting aggression of any kind.

I applaud the strong statements of support from the Biden White House for Israel in her hour of need. However, the scale of these attacks means it is likely that Israel will need to wage a sustained military campaign to protect its citizens. Statements of support are fine, but we must follow through with unwavering, resolute, and practical action. America must stand by our ally throughout this operation and beyond as it exercises its sovereign right to self-defense.

So... yeah, even when 'leaving' the DNC, he's still being one of the biggest pieces of shit regarding Israel.
