You won't have any input into how things are managed on SaidIt, no matter how much you contribute.

You are better off decentralizing and creating your own Lemmy instances and networks for autonomous self-responsible communities.

I think that in the long run, there will need to be a Way of the Bern Lemmy.

I think there may have been a Way of the Bern Discord as well.

But yes, having a platform with more control is vastly preferable to the risk of Saidit going down or following the path of Reddit.

I presume Discord would ban the sub for "medical misinformation" or some BS like that. 100% woke, data selling software.

Please let me know if/when that WotB Lemmy happens and/or if you'd like to collaborate on establishing a decentralized network of Lemmy instances.

I'm done with SaidIt.

I'm done with SaidIt.

Then what happens to your <checks profile> 54 subs?

I think you are probably right, even if Reddit caves on API pricing. Eventually, they will go after subs that are counter-narrative like WotB. Particularly with 2024 looming. Particulary when they are trying to sell a dementia patient again.

While Saidit is fine now, the powers that be will try to do to it, what they did to Subscribe Star when the largest Patrons of Patreon were leaving en masse in solidarity with Sargon of Akkad's ban.

That sounds like a lot of work. Seems more prudent at this time to help pitch in for the current option, while we evaluate future and past options, for a time. Who knows, maybe Spez will relent, or not.

Freedom is a lot of work.

You know there's a culture war and governments increasing censorship laws like Canada's Bill C11.

A site like SaidIt is a single point of failure easily stomped. Distributed/decentralized alternatives are the only way to survive and avoid a 1984 future.

Never put your hope in Spez.

Let's just go back to PHPbb forums at this point lol.

Yes! Visit mine at https://rabbithole.wf. I will create a subforum for you and let you moderate it. I'm implementing the concept of Reddit on PhpBB for a better UX.

You won't have any input into how things are managed on SaidIt, no matter how much you contribute.

You also won't have any input into the formula for Pepsi, no matter how much you buy.

But if you like the product, and like how it currently is, you'd still like to have it available to you while it is how it currently is.

If you don't like how it currently is [or how it becomes later], there's always RC Cola.
But you won't have any input into the formula for RC Cola either.

[–]JasonCarswellWay Of The Burning Man 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (24 children)

But if you like the product, and like how it currently is,

I've never been satisfied with SaidIt. When I came here I was sold a pile of promises and lies that we could improve it. Without a management overhaul Saddit will slowly die, no matter what recent fresh breath of WotB may bring.

I've never been satisfied with SaidIt.

And yet, instead of doing what you are suggesting others do, you're still here, suggesting that others not do what you have done. And are doing.

Jason got a point. The owner needs to transfer his ownership since he's not active. The platform is very active and it could grow but it's lacking a lot of features that we users simply can't put as mere users, or admins.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Consider: while there are disadvantages to having things under the control of an "absentee landlord," there are advantages as well.

While you cannot expect those changes that you want to occur anytime soon, you also do not have to dread those changes that you do not want to occur anytime soon as well. There is a sense of stability that comes with stagnation.

And you always have the option of going out and building another "eddit."

I mean yeah. But also I don't want to use a website that lacks behind in quality of life changes and features.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I don't want to use a website that lacks behind in quality of life changes and features.

That's always the choice. It's tough to find exactly what you want unless you build it yourself.

I do have a "fine, I'll do it myself" stance on certain things, but not everything.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sometimes the inconvenience of someone else's product is not quite enough inconvenience for you to go through the alternate inconvenience of just doing it yourself.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Jason got a point.

There may be a point there, but it's really hard to hear it above his whining.

I mean yeah ignore the "urr durr why can't I mod over 40 subs"

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"urr durr why can't I mod over 40 subs"

It def makes my first interaction with him make more sense.

What would you like to know? We can draft up more to add to the wiki & faq...

Personally, I'd like to know why people cannot sort comments by "old" to see them in the order they were made in.

I don't know about [that]. I know about most subs though.

Real tight focus with that one, it looks like.

Y'all don't know Jason, but he's half retarded.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

How often does he rage quit?

[–]Musky 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Depends on how much shit we're giving him. Not that often. You know what's interesting, that's not an alias. That's his real name. He's pretty forthcoming with all his personal deets, including his home address.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Not that often.

How much of a break do you usually get before he comes back?

[–]Musky 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Hard to say, could be tonight, could be a week. Whenever he gets bored.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Does he erase the evidence of the rage quit upon his return, or does it stay up?

Either way, just in case, here's an archive of the most recent one: https://archive.is/OkhBC
Hard to delete an archive....

[–]JasonCarswellWay Of The Burning Man 1 insightful - 5 fun1 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 5 fun -  (5 children)

This is exactly why I'm done with SaidIt's bullshit.

[–]Musky 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

We get a bunch of new people and here you are bitching and moaning to them about your often ill devised schemes for "improvements." Fuck you, don't shit in the pool just cause you're unhappy.

[–]NetweaselContinuing the struggle 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Fuck you, don't shit in the pool just cause you're unhappy.

We're used to that sort of thing. Some of us yell back, as most people expect.

But some of us get all "Tell us about your mother..."

[–]InumaGaming Socialist 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Yep. If we gotta diagnose a problem, we need to figure out the lay of the land so it all gets fixed.
