Scientists may have finally pinpointed humanity's ancestral hometown by Vigte in VigtesSickofThisShit

[–]Vigte[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

“We pinpoint a homeland region, we discover that [anatomically] modern humans appear to thrive there for 70,000 years and then we describe the first human explorations,” she told reporters on Thursday.

The dating in this article can be confusing - they are talking about a 200,000 year old village that people inhabited for 70,000, until 130,000 BC when "changing climate" opened up "green corridors" for "exploration".

But... then you have this article, - also from this year but a couple of months older

Southeast Europe has long been considered a major transport corridor for modern humans from Africa. But until now the earliest evidence of Homo sapiens on the continent dated back only around 50,000 years.

There has however been a number of discoveries indicating the ancient presence of Neanderthals—an early human cousin (Vigte: WILDLY INCORRECT, but that's a story for another time)—across the continent.

Two fossilised but badly damaged skulls unearthed in a Greek cave in the 1970s were identified as Neanderthal at the time.

One of them, named Apidima 2 after the cave in which the pair were found, proved to be 170,000 years old and did indeed belong to a Neanderthal.

But, to the shock of scientists, the skull named Apidima 1 pre-dated Apidima 2 by as much as 40,000 years, and was determined to be that of a Homo sapiens.

"It shows that the early dispersal of Homo sapiens out of Africa not only occurred earlier, before 200,000 years ago, but also reached further geographically, all the way to Europe," Katerina Harvati, a palaeoanthropologist at the Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen, Germany, told AFP.

cough They supposedly left Africa around 70,000 BC according to everyone with labcoats and pieces of paper from schools (1) - but this was literally the worst time to leave Africa due to the Mount Toba eruption rendering most of Oceania, Asia and Europe uninhabitable.

At this time, Africa would have been paradise and you would have looked outward upon a volcanic hellhole...

Humans didn't LEAVE Africa in 74,000, they came BACK.

The main purpose of this is to illustrate the lack of communication and study between scientists. One scientist places humans outside Africa 210,000 years ago and another declares "I've found the first human village, it's 200,000 years old and then normal people like you or I have to come along and correct their fucking mistakes like they're kids.

Sick of this shit.

(1):

The recent African origin paradigm suggests that the anatomically modern humans outside of Africa descend from a population of Homo sapiens migrating from East Africa roughly 70–50,000 years ago and spreading along the southern coast of Asia and to Oceania by about 50,000 years ago. Modern humans spread across Europe about 40,000 years ago.

A huge list of rules fails for, say, the United States of America, because the ruleset is 250,000 pages long. But a message board should be governable by, say, 2 pages of guidelines without running into those rules.

It would be best if the context was at the top and not buried in the comments.

Yeah that's a great idea. We've long wanted a way to build a repository of sources for each post itself, that'd be really helpful. Comments can do that too, but to have some sort of formalized way to do it seems like it would be helpful.

The longer the list of rules gets, the harder it gets to explain and enforce, and the more arbitrary it all becomes. I am against creating a huge patchwork of random rules, that's part of what caused reddit to fail, imo. I think there are better ways to address this issue that don't result in tons of moderation work for me to do every day, such as a 2-sentence "submission statement" from the poster about why they think it matters, for example.

Well the first one is legit because there was a widely-known story about Trump moving illegal immigrant detainees to Sanctuary Cities.

The second one I agree is garbage, but I'm not sure what a "source" would look like for that.

What do you think of the idea of people being required to submit a 2 sentence comment about why they're posting the post? To give it context. We could build it right in to the submission form.

what timing huh. and dont quote me on this but i remember there being some controversy and infighting prior to him becoming the leader,

well, from the same wiki page:

During the course of his time with the ACLU, Romero has come under fire by other leaders within the organization, including board members and his predecessor, Ira Glasser. Their complaints have included assertions of his dishonesty and lack of integrity in the context of the workplace and with regard to the ACLU's work. His critics within the ACLU have launched websites such as savetheaclu.org and voicesfortheaclu.org, reporting that he "has betrayed fundamental ACLU values".[11][14]

received the 2011 margaret sanger award from planned parenthood, the baby killers

and beside all this, on all his public photos he looks utterly pleased with himself... i smell a narcissist!! its a common flaw among the privileged elites.

and because i must throw in some tangential dirt on the jesuits - romero - all roads lead to rome, huh? also they are all gays too, just like romero

Yes, but the problem is that no one has the authority to fire them, basically. Because "we the people" don't actually run our government, that's just a convenient fiction we're sold so they can maintain power with minimal resistance, imo.

Can you imagine what the USA would be like if the government worked for the people, rather than the companies?

No, and that's sad. Technically, they do work for us though (at least that is what we've been led to believe, should probably fact check that one). We the people need to remember that.

Has anyone ever started a petition to fire the representatives that seem to favor corporate interests? I guess this would have to be done on a state/regional basis. Do petitions even work anymore? Guess I just outlined what I'm reading tonight.

Just wait, in a few decades pot companies will form a monopoly, lobby congress, and get special funding and privileges for their industry, while shutting out other industries. Seems this is just how industries in America operate. Monopolies through regulatory capture and lobbying gains that far outstrip lobbying expenditures, making it a profitable approach.

[If they are, well played... :p JK /u/magnora7 sounds too skinny and /u/d3rr too rational (zen-like even with his remarks, too human... but yeah Zen) totally not not like American 'Tourists' I've encountered.]

Anyway yeah I was stereotyping again, I don't hold my stereo typees against you... it's just a 'tag' like 'ping' that goes off soon to be discredited... Never did I spot a stereo type american here and even if you are, I will gladly help in my internet comment capacity...

Ahhh did it again! Well, first of all, make love to yourself, if you ever need MY opinion about You based on stereotypes I can tell you: You might have a problem anyway :D

Nice does mean a lot of other things than you summed up. Probably it's meant in a way as to more community related or even context related.

I get your points, but IMHO (European) it's a better 'stereo type' to have than the Americans have...

[Heck! You're filthy socialists to some americans, but you do enjoy healthcare like europeans, you might be the missing link for humanity to get over the 'group' think of europa and the 'dickheads' from america to become a better species]

My opinion is: Better than the French, worse than the Germans. I have a lot of my family tree living in Canada and they are DOWN TO EARTH in a not to overly (crazy American evangelistic) pagan/Christian way. Ehmm.. Individualistic is a good way (maybe not perfect, but hey, no country/community is)

EDIT: so yeah, more funny than insightful.. if you can get through your snow packed skull you horse riding maple syrup slurping human being!

00:29:16 secs are NOT the same persons. Disinformation agents post this and these videos are still on YouTube whilst all the authentic research done by namesnotmary and others are censored. Again, she was doxxed and harrassed but exposed for well over two years all the inner workings of Sandy Hook and their financial records, shady hush money with general electric, etc., all gone. But this disinformation is left up on YouTube for a very good reason and I think we all know why.

Yes, metabunk is a shill website BUT conspiracy theorist shills work with conspiracy theory debunkers. Create an easily debunkable theory. Make it go viral, have the debunkers debunk it, therefore reducing credibility of real researchers and research.

If you think it isn’t him. Type in Sandy hook Bill Aldenberg local news report and you’ll see it is him, even though he doesn’t know how to hold a firearm the right way. It is not crisis actor and regular actor David Wheeler. Either Ole is blind or he is deliberately spreading disinfo. I think it might be the latter.

I HATE the sound of crunching snow - it's so repulsive and distracting.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind COOL weather, but "freezing" yeah, mother nature can fuck off with -30 winds and blizzards and ice.

I hate driving on snow, hate driving on ice - and aside from Christmas, I don't think snow should be around anymore. I don't care if it gives moisture to the ground - rain does the same shit just fine everywhere else in the world.

Fuck snow, I'm so sick of this shit.

Hmm....if you are running for the purpose of cardio, you could shovel driveways. It would be helpful to others, a gesture of good will, and will raise your heart rate. It's a win for everyone.

If you are running for the purpose of escape, then you are in a pickle. You will leave tracks anywhere you go, giving away your path of escape and the type of shoes you are wearing (as well as the size). Plus you will be slow. Snowshoes, maybe?

Get a VPN is my only recommendation. Nord VPN allows you to put it on up to 5 devices IIRC. But yeah there really is no recourse. Gov't sucks, and meanwhile everyone is talking about how a white kid who smirked is the fucking center piece hallmark of what's wrong with our country.

As far as what we can do about it...it's a "trying to get the toothpaste back in the tube" scenario now. Any type of surveillance shouldn't be there in the first place. But, as long as the population continues to use apps and agree to location enabling, it may be beyond fixing. Making rules after the fact will exclude some person or entity, and with so much collusion between lawmakers and corporations I think privacy will now always be exploited. Stop using smartphones is all I've got at the moment.

On a tangent, I strongly feel "we the people" need to watch what congress is doing more closely. Proposed laws and resolutions are posted, and while some are lengthy maybe it's worth the time to read and interpret them for ourselves instead of relying on media to do it for us. Forming a group to do this may work, as no one has the time to read everything.

Totally sick of this "rules for thee, not for me" shit!

What do you think we can do about it though? One set of rules for a "human being" (regardless of position/status etc) - maybe another simplified set of rules regarding corporate spying?

Very complicated issue :\

But, really? A bill to protect diplomats from surveillance through devices, but no legislation to protect citizens from big brother (at least I couldn't find any, please post if it exists). Congress sucks.
