I still surprised that anyone actually took the Daily Show seriously as a source of reliable news or valid opinions. It was run on Comedy Central, and the fact that the muppets hosting it managed to con so many people in believing that they were legitimate sources of social and political commentary (as opposed to the satire it was meant to be) was mind-boggling.

They gave better news than the actual news stations when John Stewart and Colbert were running it. Colbert then pulled a full 180 and became a shill for the establishment once he went on network TV. Trevor Noah never touched 3rd rail issues so he was mostly just boring. Stewart legitimately skewered both parties and he's basically the ONLY reason congress finally gave money to 9/11 victims. Since he's been back he's already put out some good episodes and the most recent one he's revealed that Apple kept him from discussing monopoly power when he was over there.

that's actually why he left 2015: he wanted people to demand more from their actual broadcasters and public servants than hang on to every word of a middlebrow yukmeister

basically the anti-Olbermann

I enjoyed The Daily Show back in the 90s/00s. They talked about more than just politics but when they did touch on politics, they generally did so by taking the piss out of everyone.

But then they gradually developed some weird egotistical political imperative and it was all downhill from there. It's a shame.

DEI was never 'well-intentioned'. It was always a cynical corporate initiative to consolidate power and silence dissent.
