Sure, he can probably get the meat swapped around and the blood flow (mostly) hooked up right. But what about the nerve endings? There's just no way that this is going result in a procedure that leaves both patients with sex organs that do what sex organs are supposed to do.

Penis transplants do actually work man to man, as in producing a penis that can both have sex and enjoy it, I actually personally know a surgeon that has done them, but they’re really rare due in part that there are few donated penises and few people meet the criteria for suitability.

I’m willing to bet that man to woman penis transplants have fuck all chance of being functional.

And woman to man vagina transplants sound just as unlikely. Have there actually ever been any woman to woman transplants?

The main benefit with constructing a dick out of a person's own skin rather than getting a transplant is that you don't have to be on immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of your life.

There's also the psychological aspect. It's near impossible to get a good skin match so most guys are going to look down and see another man's penis.

I think looking down and seeing a penis with a slightly different skin tone is preferable to looking down and seeing scarred meat and suprapubic catheter. These penis transplants are only normally done to men who have had either catastrophic lower abdominal injuries (soldiers hit by IEDs make up the majority of cases, I believe) or those who were born with severe congenital malformation or complete absence. The subjects of the transplants also get considerable psychological support before and after (including looking at whether they can cope without the op completely).

The particular case I’m familiar with the guy was born with no penis and made it to his mid-forties, suffering with terrible depression that led to multiple suicide attempts. He had absolutely nothing to lose going into it, and any gain whatsoever was going to worthwhile and better than what he already had. The result was a functioning penis.

The madness would be in taking healthy female genitalia and trying to graft a penis on there. It will never be as functional as the genitals you removed and will never live up to the hype built in the recipient’s imagination. The ethics committee that approves this shit is on crack.

As for the man who gets the transplanted female genitals, the same applies.

This is an outrageous proposition and should never be approved by an ethics committee.

I don't really know much about it but it seems logical to me to assume that a transplant has a better chance of working properly than an inversion.

Still well in the realm of mad science though.

At this point I'm curious why don't you just go full mad science and start doing brain transplants. I wonder if I could start a grift where I get some cartoony brain swap device that doesn't actually work and claim I switched their souls. Oh you don't remember, well your memories are all in the brain of course that's why but the souls, totally swapped successfully!

Or putting aside reality for a minute let's say you make a commercially viable mind swapping device, I wonder how long before your swapped people get gender disphoria again and can't figure out why.

I wonder how long before your swapped people get gender disphoria again and can't figure out why.

I doubt it would even be noticed under the massive surge of cosmetic swapping and rich/powerful old lizards shopping around for shiny new bodies to extend their lives.
