They actually did close it at one point and the outrage got so bad they reluctantly reopened it. It’s an island of sanity in the Reddit sea of madness. I will not be surprised if it’s eventually shut down permanently though. As the trans ideology falls further out of public favor they will get more and more desperate and defensive, like a wounded animal.

If i remember correctly, they got banned at the same time they banned all the gender critical and radfem subs. Somehow they caved in to the backlash on that particular sub. Perhaps there was a particular admin who wanted to remove all wrongthink and tried to sneak that extra ban through but they got caught and had to undo it. I have a hard time believing that if all the admins came together and agreed to ban detrans that they would suddenly change their minds because people complained.

Bardfinn has had a persistent hateboner for it and has wanted to take it over or some such yeah.

The argument that I believed worked was that banning r/detrans was transphobic because it was an issue inherently rooted in the transgender community.

I used up my 'junk media quotient' by watching a Jubilee video on YouTube yesterday. It was this one : 5 Feminists vs 1 Secret Antifeminist.... The format of the video is that you have a group of feminists but there's (supposedly) one mole in the group who is trying to pass as that identity and after discussion rounds people are progressively voted out (to eliminate the mole). Anyway, of course there was a militant 'trans' activist in the group and she spouted all the usual ideology. One woman pushed ever so slightly back, talking about her reservations about biological males being able to compete against biological females (but she put it much more mildly). For her trouble, she was then voted out the next round (because of course all dissent must be immediately silenced).

So far, so predictable. However what I didn't predict was the strong show of sympathy for this contestant (I think her name was Emma) in the comments. Most of the top comments were supportive of her, and pointed out, quite legitimately, how stupid it was to fail her as a feminist for voicing her reservations on this point. So yeah, this is a longwinded way of saying I think the tide is turning, as sensible people realised that it must turn, but it's perhaps happening more quickly than I'd realised.

Yeah it went offline during the June (?) 2020 crazies when they banned gencrit and gcdebatesqt, etc.

Yup, I’ve been quietly following it for years now. I never post, because I feel like it’s the only place these poor kids are allowed to talk.

They keep it tightly moderated and talk openly about how Reddit’s troon army is foaming at the mouth to shut them down.

When they banned all the GC subs they left the GCguys sub open for quite a while.

We should not allow ourselves the complacency to become comfortable concentrating our communication in single forums where others will dictate our speech. This is why there should always be backups via places like Saidit (though not exclusively here either), face-to-face discussion, voice, things like Telegram, etc. Someone will always decide what we can and cannot say, so we need a number of outlets with different rules so that we can piece the whole picture together for ourselves as best we can.
