If you give the same death penalty to the person who steals a loaf of bread to feed their starving family as you would to someone who murders somebody, you didn't deter the person from stealing a loaf of bread. You only motivate the person to kill all the witnesses- they're going to die anyway if they're caught and it's not like you can kill them twice, and hey, if there's no witnesses they might just get away with it.

The same problem is there with "pedos face the wall." If you give the pedophile who's trying to seek therapy or mental help to stop themselves from being a pedophile the same bullet you give the pedophiles who act on it and abuse a child, you didn't deter the pedophile from those urges.       In that case- if you MUST talk about pedophilia in classes and treat it as the same as any other sexuality (you don't and shouldn't), it shouldn't be done until college when the vast majority of the class will be over 18, AT LEAST.       You associate homosexuality with kinks because of queer and lgbtq+. The actual gay people who are trying to live their lives don't go to pride shit.       Social shame does not work at all to stop pedophilia, because pedophilia is a sexuality-based mental illness. If anything, social shame would do the exact opposite and make the pedophile that much more likely to go up to abuse.

      "Love conquers all" is a point that matters more than any social shame based on the person you're lusting after.         In fact we know people who view child porn like younger and younger children the more they watch so that's clearly learnt behaviour and not innate.

        Homosexuality is a paraphilia too. It was removed from the DSM under political pressure.

        On less flippant note, I'm really not convinced anyone knows how this stuff works. That goes for you and the "queer academic" both. I'm seeing a lot of assertions and no real evidence on either side. If it's impossible (or very rare) to be innately pedophilic then teaching differently could potentially be harmful, much like spreading gender ideology is clearly making more young people "trans".

        But since pedophilia is so hated, but still exists, and existed for a long time, I'm not so sure the same mechanism is at work there.
