Looks like someone who has been thoroughly indoctrinated into the postmodernist catechism of queer theory and intersectional feminism.

They’re acting in exactly the same way as anyone who has invested so much in their cause does, be it traditional religion or climate ‘crisis’ activism or Elon Musk fans or cryptocurrency enthusiasts or the trans bullshit. They will support their side without thinking and it takes something really egregious for them to even consider that they might not have all the facts right. Elon Musk fans are annoying but unlike the gender crowd at least they don’t pose a risk to children.

A whole lot of it is mindless drivel. It's the same nonsense that gets people to ignore the obvious red flags with cults and pyramid schemes alike.

People go and post stuff to be nice or to try to seem like they are doing the right thing but they have no clue. Same with a lot of science stuff, Elon musk fans are more cult of personality than anything. And while I like sparkly sci-fi stuff as much as the next guy, people seriously thinking he's gonna manage to build his hypersonic pneumatic tube train on any sort of timescale that could be described as "soon" simply have bot bothered to think about the implications of actually building it and prefer to go along with the "pseudo smart" idea of "don't just knock incredible ideas believe in the impossible" type stuff probably as an overcompensation against the types of people who also thoughtlessly reject most new information.

Thoughtlessness is the issue though, you can either unthinkingly positively accept what is given to you or unthinkingly reject it but either way if you're putting no thought into it you're going to be quite ignorant of what it actually it. Regardless on whether or not you've blindly stumbled into the correct answer.

The problem I have with the Elon Musk types is they are almost always followed by a huge number of grifters also ready to take advantage of his fans, it becomes difficult to tell at what point Musk is intentionally trying to sell a grift and at what point he's just some executive type super rich person making decisions based on what other people are telling him are good ideas. Which is why you get in the one side, stuff like electric cars, isn't the worst development and can be profitable in many ways for a number of reasons (actual environmental impact not withstanding) and on the other hand you've got his Mars colony plans which are so stupid it's almost impossible to take seriously. He wants a million people on Mars by the end of the decade (though he's probably put that time scale back again) but regardless all his plans are stupid there. We've managed to get about a dozen people onto a much closer body and that's it. It's going to be exponentially harder to get people to Mars. Let alone a factor of ten thousand more than we've managed to do so up until now. Also completely ignoring the fact we can't just send stuff to Mars whenever we want and we instead have to wait for when the planets are aligned correctly which only happens once every 18 months or so, so that gives you like, maybe 6 windows in a decade, and if you want to get a million people up there along with whatever infrastructure you need that means you're gonna need to be firing up a hell of a lot of rockets in each window. Like thousands of them.

All of this of course when we've managed to get a grand total of zero people to Mars so far. Not so much for lack of technology. The tech has "technically been there" since we managed to send people to the moon. It's physically possible, it's just not very safe. All sorts of problems that can happen. Like the fact that once you get to Mars the static differential that builds up during Martian dust storms might just end up frying any electronics when that astronaut comes back from excursion touches some metal and discharges. And of course there's the whole dying of cancer problem unless you want to make the spaceship out of very thick lead, which further makes it quite difficult to launch since lead is heavy.

But hey can't expect the science literacy to be great when people believe that sex is psychically determined.

Musk didn’t even invent the idea of “hyper loop”, vacuum-based trains in underground and above ground tubes is an idea that is almost a century old. British Rail examined the idea in the 60s or 70s. There’s a reason no one built one, it’s an impossibly stupid idea.

Musk’s idea to use rockets to replace transcontinental air travel, is just plain retarded.

Musk’s design of Starship will not work the way he claims, for a supposed engineering genius his design for how it will deliver satellites to orbit is bordering on special needs.

Musk’s Boring Company is not even slightly faster or cheaper than any other tunnel boring company and the idea that you could build multiple tunnels to carry individual cars underground to alleviate traffic is retarded, just plain retarded, we already have a much better and more efficient system for transit underground - subways/underground trains/the tube, and it’s coming up on 160 years since it was first built.

Musk lied about solar roof tiles, for which he is being sued by investors.

Musk is Elizabeth Holmes on steroids and he will eventually get caught.

Musk is a monster of self promotion, but the cult following he has is incredible. Watching coverage of the Starship launch and the way people reacted to its catastrophic failure was like watching the brainwashed. “The rocket exploded, and that’s a good thing” is literally what I heard one person say.

I first got wind of his weirdo following when they demanded we destroy every train in the country because Hyperloop was gonna bring about a MovieBob-style transhuman future where your grandma would be brought back to virtual life: most of his behavior I explain as his brain swimming in a bloodstream full of soft drugs (that he doubtless insists are "nootropics"), so he's half-assed on average, either just taking credit Walt Disney-style for things he does manage to sell (rockets, cars, Starlink)--or saying things like "we'll engineer the cars not to ever have accidents" or "we'll put the reactors NEAR sources of water"

probably most characteristic is Twitter threatening him to force him to buy it, actually exposing an extensive hand-in-glove relation between social media and the FBI to intervene in political stories, firing the dangerhairs and Aidens in charge, then dropping the whole thing to just occasionally reboot the server personally at 2 am

SpaceX is a massive government subsidy grift (it’s no cheaper than the Shuttle, which is crazy). StarLink is not viable when you dive into the economics of it.

Musk is very good at generating hype, making outlandish claims but shit at delivery.

Remember he started as a millionaire with daddy’s money and made some very lucky investments, he was not involved in developing anything directly.

of course that raises the question "who's next"? back in 2008 everyone was trying to sell me on Ray Kurzweil "who has never been wrong in his life," but eventually "he'll show you all" always becomes "he never said that! show me where he said that!"

I think it's because techno-utopianism promises sciencey-sounding stuff that COULD exist in material reality (or at least you've seen it on TV shows, and after all wasn't most real technology ?): so someone would scoff at a blissed-out follower of Guru Krishna Christos who sold his possessions and wife after seeing him command the sun to rise at precisely 6:43 am, but many people have the same fuse in their heads that can get blown

(or how the unbeliever Scott Adams actually believing he's manifesting everything in his immediate area and can change it Bruce Almighty-style)

I used to read popular science magazine quite a bit and it was pretty alarming the abject stupidity of a lot of the articles in there. Not that I don't enjoy some pulpy sci-fi ideas myself, we do need to at some point discuss and explore off the wall crazy ideas simply because there is value in the discussion, but there was this just total lack of critical thought. Sure a Hyperloop is "technologically possible" and is cool as hell, but there are so many engineering challenges to be had building it that any sort of large scale model let alone a functional passenger system is a literal pipe dream. You see this similar kind of willful ignorance and just total inability to grapple with the logistical and functional realities with hardcore train enthusiasts. They are all like "why doesn't the US have a massive high speed rail system" and just totally ignore the fact the US lacks the population density to support such a system, is literally 10 times larger than any country that has managed to build one, save China of course but they do have the population and aren't exactly working off of a market economy with it.

So like, we imagine the fastest passenger ready train tech that exists today, maglev, they go like 500kph or so. I've ridden one, it's quite cool. But the only working passenger train that is currently in operation is a 30km or so Chinese airport shuttle essentially built just to show off the tech, it's utterly impractical. The Japanese are in the process of building one themselves but it's still a decade out before it can be open for passenger. But let's go ahead and hypothetically disregard cost, building problems etc.

You are a magical train fan and snap your fingers and poof a US continent spanning maglev train system into existence, then become despondent when people are still choosing to fly between Los Angeles and New York because they'd rather sit on a plane for 5 hours then sit on a train for 10 hours. Who'd of thunk it?

Does make sense to run one between Boston New York and Washington though.

and stopping to yeet a drunk and disorderly passenger would only take 5 minutes instead of the hours of radioing an airport to land at, getting in the flight stack, dealing with the cops on the ground, recalculating the takeoff weight, and then taking off again

enjoy walking to your big-city appointment from the Bumfuck TGV station, mr fancypants lawyer who thinks people are just there to soak up his booze-soaked misbehavior!

This isn't an issue with airplanes in the glorious oppressed people's autocratic republic of alienhunterstan. Flight attendants are simply required to carry large amounts of cloroform on hand to subdue any unruly passengers. Who will then be placed in a straight jacked while unconscious and conveniently stored in the unruly passenger receptacle until they can be collected upon landing by everyone's favorite Alienhunter loyalty enforcement specialists to be inducted into a super fun (and educational) mandatory summer camp (with free labour!) between our extensive cerebral washing training to scrub out those nasty thoughts and replace them with nice clean acceptance of alienhunterism and piety towards dear leader. (Inshallah!)

The tracks of high speed trains are too accessible to terrorists and joy-destroyers for my liking.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

There are legit security issues that need to be considered. But these can be mitigated. Europe seems to do alright in that area.

One of the things you need to do when building a high speed train is design the whole thing so that the tracks are simply not easily accessible to anyone. If for anything to minimize the risk of collisions with stupid motorists.

Or wildlife, for that matter. Hitting a deer or stray cow at 500kph wouldn't be pretty.

[–]Node 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Agreed those 'oops' incidents are way too common on open rail lines. High speed rail lines don't often have active security, so are vulnerable to deliberate attack.

A dump truck full of explosives, or even just sand, driven through fencing onto the track. Passenger cars are going to disintegrate at those speeds.

of course "Musk" and "children" aren't a good mix either: he runs around like an alley cat, dumps them and their moms once bored, and seems to have been the donor for Amber Heard's surrogate baby (quite a genetic legacy, there)

I find it really funny her name is "Patsy"

patsy - NOUN - a person who is easily taken advantage of

Then she says she posted the tweet because someone asked her to and she doesn't know anything about the person or situation.

Thankfully I have no idea who either of these people is. I just know some murderous cunt (I get it, they didn't die so attempted murder) said it was okay to assault people they didn't agree with. Well, I don't agree with pretty much any trans activist, is it okay to punch them in the face? Of course not. I don't condone that behavior, but I understand it.

Behold, the method by which the TQ+ have gained such a hold on society. People, mostly straight white women, are so desperate to be on the right side of history that they'll immediately and blindly support whomever they're told to without so much as googling the name of the stranger they "stand with".

Hopefully Patsy's research results in a peaking.
