Come to Canada. It's Pride SEASON here.

I’m from Tennessee, currently in Montreal for the weekend. My god, the wokeness culture shock is unreal.

It's insane in any of the Canadian urban centres. I have friends telling me it's less so in places like NYC, which surprised me. Guess they have too many real problems.

this probably is just a function of how big cities work--LGBT+ Pride happens in all of them, but then you have St Paddy's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Polish Constitution Day, Mardi Gras all spilling into the streets, so it resembles the other celebrations more; so Stonewall Century

like on LA's Walk of Fame you have literal human shit, then walk up the hill two blocks and it's quiet bistros and car parks; cross back and go two blocks downhill and there's some sort of shrine to Vampira or an Asian neighborhood; if you're going to the gayborhood you'll see a certain SORT of gay, if you go to Koreatown Starbucks will have a 50-foot billboard proclaiming DOKDO IS KOREAN, stuff like that

What's Montreal like with the wokeness?

I’ve just been here for a day, so it’s not like I have the full picture yet, but let’s just say that it looks exactly how you’d imagine Tumblr as a physical place.

Tumblr as a physical place.

So you're in hell...

But is it pre- or post-porn ban Tumblr? That could make a slight difference.

Quebec has traditionally been the most socially progressive province within the already very socially progressive country of Canada, and Montreal is the most progressive city within Quebec.

Though as I say above, BC is giving them a run for their money with legalized meth and crack.

Only somewhere in BC, goddamnit! We've gotta keep that shit contained to those drug addled west coasters.

Is it open season? Or do I still need a license?

We need to stop calling them the Alphabet Mafia. It's much more like an Alphabet Gestapo.

There's no such thing

Nah. I don't recognize that horseshit. That community wants to erase heterosexuals. They say it all the time "we're combatting heteronormative behavior" and that's hate. I refuse to engage with people like that and don't recognize anything to be proud of. Be proud of your achievements not incidental things you just happen to be (race, nationality, gender, orientation).

[–]OuroborosTheory 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

man and woman: "we're not straight, we're a pan NB couple!" it's like in the 70s how "everyone is either bi--or in denial!" (and of course you can't challenge somebody on THAT)

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The idea of "heteronormative" behavior is itself a concept that can only exist with stereotypical ideas of how gay people are supposed to behave.

There's only one homosexual behavior that is indicative of being a homosexual. Sexual behavior. That's it. Sexual behavior needs to be restrained to some extent in public for anyone, so I don't see how you're supposed to judge someone based on their other behaviors without resorting to stereotypes.

Not that the stereotypes aren't often true, but it's not homophobic to be annoyed by annoying behaviors. I might dislike someone for acting in an extremely flamboyant manner where it isn't appropriate. I've no opinion on his sex life. Only his public behaviors.

Good points, but all things we don't need to know about or have demanded form the straight community (or as I like to call us, the overwhelming majority). The idea of being proud of something you didn't achieve is baffling to me.
