I’m from Tennessee, currently in Montreal for the weekend. My god, the wokeness culture shock is unreal.

It's insane in any of the Canadian urban centres. I have friends telling me it's less so in places like NYC, which surprised me. Guess they have too many real problems.

this probably is just a function of how big cities work--LGBT+ Pride happens in all of them, but then you have St Paddy's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Polish Constitution Day, Mardi Gras all spilling into the streets, so it resembles the other celebrations more; so Stonewall Century

like on LA's Walk of Fame you have literal human shit, then walk up the hill two blocks and it's quiet bistros and car parks; cross back and go two blocks downhill and there's some sort of shrine to Vampira or an Asian neighborhood; if you're going to the gayborhood you'll see a certain SORT of gay, if you go to Koreatown Starbucks will have a 50-foot billboard proclaiming DOKDO IS KOREAN, stuff like that

I’ve just been here for a day, so it’s not like I have the full picture yet, but let’s just say that it looks exactly how you’d imagine Tumblr as a physical place.

Quebec has traditionally been the most socially progressive province within the already very socially progressive country of Canada, and Montreal is the most progressive city within Quebec.
