Part of being an anime fan is knowing enough to say "no, don't put us in with these psychos" to a LOT of shit out there.

I think the problem is being a "anime fan" as opposed to just a general "movie buff". But while idea that anime is somehow a genre is something I'd not agree with. It's a grouping of art styles at best.

Seen some decent sci-fi and fantasy shit out there. But it's buried in between loads of crap like "I reincarnated as a pair of underpants".

Why in the world I should be interested in that after enjoying a more artsy sci-fi series is something that only a weeb would think is a possibility.

That ties to another problem of the "anime fan": Sturgeon's Law is a thing- 90% of everything is crap. It's just that with anime, the mixture of thinking it's a genre, with how it's still new to have everything so it's expected to even get the crap, and the crap seems exotic, means that the crap ends up getting the same fanbase as the great stuff.

Yeah the fan base for it rightly turns people off the "genre" in general. I don't think it helps that there's so much garbage on the streaming services that I can't blame anyone for not wanting to bother sifting through 30 variations of various highschool drama type shows or "My girlfriend turned out to be an ancient demon " type shows.

Some of the older shit is pretty good, essentially same rule as anything the tired overdone cliches and tropes are usually just talentless hacks copying something that actually managed to pull it off once upon a time.

I expect these young people to take Jeffrey Marsh's counsel and go 'no-contact' with their parents as soon as they turn 18. Some of them are clearly being actively groomed.

I think it's impossible for parents to understand they environment their kids are immersed in. I talk to so many of my co-workers who let their young kids have unfiltered access to YouTube and social media. They don't think at all about what their kids are watching or what kids of people they're interacting with. They're so naive.

I really wonder what it's like for families of sexual deviants like this. I have to imagine some parents would have to cut off contact for their own well-being.

I knew some chick back in college that always dressed in a Pikachu hoodie and refused to interact with anyone besides making Pikachu noises. It was annoying in class be we basically all just decided class was for humans not Pikachus so we just refused to awknoledge this person so long as she was an annoying cunt.

I imagine the family situation was even more frustratingly annoying.

I'd certainly not tolerate it as a parent. But I suspect in this case the parents must have been paying for college. I can't imagine a situation where a Pikachu could get a scholarship, let alone hold down a job.

Parents, many adults honestly, are simply naive about the shit that's online. I see stories popping up around the trans issue where people seem shocked about some of the weird tranny porn out there, I mean I guess it's good that you weren't exposed to it until now but it's in no way a new phenomenon.

I think it underlines the right's inability to deal with the more perverse issues plaguing society. The fear of corruption limits their own intellectual curiosity. Much like the forbidden fruit. In order to know what is evil you must understand evil, they rightly know it's best avoided but it leaves them blind to issues fomenting, they'll crucify the messengers since anyone who knows about the problems is unclean in their eyes due to exposure, and they'll be happily naive to the issue until it becomes to big to ignore.

I don't think it's possible now to fully protect your kids from exposure to the bad things in life or the internet, it never has been, but the parents that give their kid totally free unsupervised reign of the internet are beyond idiotic. It would be like letting your 12 year old go explore the part of town with the strip clubs all by themselves.
