    Notice how the rise of this nonsense has kind of corresponded to a depletion of almost any and all religiosity or meaningful spirituality from people's lives? This identity stuff becomes like a culture as well as a religion for these folks, and gives them something to build a sense of self around.

    When there's a gap in people's lives / souls, something else will fill in that gap, and it's often not good.
