What rights are millennials fighting for? In the west i was already free to live and love how i wanted with out fear of political repercussion. Unfortunately my generation has slowly been eroding that freedom on a social level. I would be ostracized for saying im gay and vote conservative for tax breaks. Unfortunately we divorced from reason in society where people were free to be themselves. Now you have to fall into a specific category of predetermined beliefs. You have to march to the beat of their drum and fall in line or you get canceled. Its only matter of time. Soon we will see laws about hate think. At that point terror will become the order of the day. But instead of beheading mental dissenters they will put you in a fucking reeducation camp

Forgive me I don't speak twitter so I have no clue what this post is on about. Absolutism in the Anakin Skywalker school of debate that persists in LGBTQHIV+ spaces? You're with me or you are my enemy! Man reminds me of strict christian movements where they'd suddenly find something popular to demonize and you went along with the crowd or got ostracized and branded a satanist. In the past we burned Harry Potter books because they taught children how to summon Pokemons who would make them talk back to their parents. Now we burn Harry Potter books because JK Rowling prefers the term Woman to Birthing-Unit.

I think what we are going to see going forward is the LGBT movement as a whole just utterly disintegrate due to infighting giving the religious right the cultural reigns again for a time. The cycle continues. You'll get these woke LGBT positive parents absolutely beside themselves wondering how their children could come out as religious conservatives and utterly shocked at the very idea despite themselves not following their own parents footsteps and decrying their beliefs as wrong once upon a time.

Has everyone simply forgotten the trend of teenage rebellion? They'll rebel against whatever their parents positions are. If their parents are ideological authoritarians they'll only rebel that much harder. I can't begin to tell you how many stories from born again christians I've heard where they converted and converted hard due to their parents constantly belittling religion and punishing them for reading the bible and the like. The opposite rings true? I've seen people develop very unhealthy attitudes towards things like sex and pornography because their parents went so far to ban even the slightest PG rated material from the house well into the kids Teenage years.

Perhaps they aren't so different from their parents in adopting extreme takes on things. But surely at some point they've gotta realize the whole teens rebelling again their parents ideology and be a bit introspective as to ask why the kids would want to do that beyond the teenager being teenagers? But that involves self-awareness so nah.

Gay person wants to vote republican doesn't mean that person agrees with the republican party platform on gay people. I mean come on but these same people think eating at a specific chicken restaurant is tantamount to lynching. God it is all so tiring. It reminds me of the hardcore christians treating all sins the same, doesn't matter if you murder someone or sneak an extra cookie from the cookie jar when you aren't supposed to fire and brimstone for you. Doesn't matter if you actually go out and beat gay people to death or go to a business that donates money to republicans you horrible person you. It's all so fucking religious. God anyone rememeber the Baptist Disney boycotts? How the fuck do gay people go from an environment where going to Disneyland was evil because they didn't actively tell the gays to get lost to making a similar environment where eating at a certain fast food restaurant is akin to blasphemy because the head honcho guy publicly supported a campaign you don't like?

God the LGBTQ spaces at the moment are basically a new religion. Give it 100 years I wonder if we'll not have it morph into a legitamate religious organization. Your comment was going pretty well, and then it just veered right off of the road and into a ditch full of "WTF?!?" :D

They'll rebel against whatever their parents positions are. If their parents are ideological authoritarians they'll only rebel that much harder.

Even that doesn't change the rebellion.

Millennials and Gen-X people were built around being so accepting of all people that the only thing that'd really make a Millennial Mommy or Daddy HURT is if you grew up to be a hate-filled bigot- so by that logic, the Gen-Z child HAS to become a hateful supremacist. It's not about the beliefs, it's about making Mommy and Daddy cry and say "...where did I go wrong?"

This also explains why so many of the Gen-Z beliefs openly contradict each other and you literally can't have both things- they know you can't, but it'll sure make Mommy and Daddy regret not buying you a pony when you were 8.

What rights are millenials fighting for?

The right to be self-righteous, authoritarian twats who, rather than striving their utmost for their own excellence, attempt to drag everyone else down to a level that leaves them (and only them) elevated in all of their oh-so-glorious mediocrity.

Shit like this is how you know we’re in the beginning stage of catabolic collapse: people living in denial and creating fake problems to distract themselves from the discomfort of the reality that the true existential threat can’t be fought politically.

I really believe social media is our downfall. It gives the lunatic fringes of society way more influence then they'd have otherwise, and all of the clown world shit going on right now is the result.

My hope for Gen Z is that they will eventually realize what growing up with social media has done to their generation and as future adults they'll take some sort of corrective action and regulate the shit out of it. But I'm not holding my breath.

I think practically speaking it's impossible to regulate unless you want to full out criminalize the internet and shut down the ISPs.

Best bet going forward is social pressure. Demonize internet use socially. Ridicule people for bringing up social media use the same way you'd ridicule someone for doing heroin at the dinner table.

Shame parents who let their kids have smart phones like they are giving their kids bottles of Vodka.

Only way change comes around is through grassroots social attitudes. Government can't do jack shit. Just look at online piracy. Can't stop things on the internet unless you shut the whole thing down. You can go full on censorious on the mainstream web but it doesn't take that much digging to find stuff if you are motivated too.

Impossible to fully regulate yeah. But we can put little barriers around it. E.g. treat it like porn: no Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, etc, until you're 18. Will it stop determined kids who really want to see the content? Of course not. But for the less determined kids it might stop or at least slow them down. And to reduce the likelihood they'll use those platforms, maybe give them their own kid-only social media alternative so they at least have a way to connect with their peers but are not exposed to the adult groomers and crazy people on the mainstream platforms.

It's not a silver bullet solution but it's at least something. We need something because right now we have nothing, zero regulation, and it's turning a whole generation of kids into insane fruitcakes.

Honestly, keeping it like porn explains the best way to do it. The Internet is SO necessary to live that you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube any more than you can privatize air; hell, it's more likely the future is "declare the Internet a utility like water/gas/electricity where it's publicly available". Meanwhile, porn is so free flowing that it doesn't really slow kids down to get it- and it ALSO won't slow down adult groomers/crazy people on the Internet (it's just as easy for a grownup to pretend to be a kid as it is for a kid to pretend to be a grownup.)

However, the real answer that we have for porn is obvious (and it's shocking that capitalist societies don't do it): CHARGE A SUBSCRIPTION FEE FOR SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. Simplest and most effective way to nip it all in the bud: there's so much free porn available that kids won't even touch a subscription site, and most parents wouldn't buy their kid a subscription to porn sites. Similarly, if you merely institute a subscription service for Facebook/Twitter/etc., then kids will have no choice but to stop going to those sites because they can't afford the subscription (and parents won't be aware it's done to keep their kids off it; I mean, it's nearly 20 years of social media and it's just WEIRD that it's still been free for this long without charging.) And before the obvious "they'll go to a new social media site"...if Facebook and Twitter go to a subscription model, everyone else will too.
