I really hope the boss goes, "And what do you want me to do about it?"

I mean, if I'm reading it right, the person didn't actually send the '"transphobic abuse" to "him" but her friends, in a private discussion that "he" just happened to see. I've always been self employed so I don't know how workplaces would handle this but surely it's not really a work place matter?

I'd be seriously considering firing the FTM. The maturity and ethical problems going on here would be sufficient for me, at least in an at-will state, to consider termination. I wouldn't want to roll the dice on that employee being ethical in other contexts later, if they can't be ethical in this one now.
