Extremely insightful comment:

I usually dance around this in real life but I'm sick of the completely uncritical acceptance of queer theory and the implications of seeing sex and gender, and therefore sexual orientation, as "performative" and therefore changeable.

The only performance going on is Judith Butler's career as an academic grifter.

Even more I strongly dislike the casual use of the word "queer" by the same people who think that words that might possibly offend anyone must be avoided at all costs.

There's always been a tension between "he's gay so he's sufficiently low on the Privilege HierarchyTM for my positive regard" and "he's male so he's higher on the totem pole so fuck him" in this ideological space, but it seems like the latter position is winning out for more people.

"I hate people who generalize all women."

"Gay white men in general are the worst."

-two statements from a coworker, in the same conversation, in 2015, in a college town

Seeing that rhetoric become more common in the years since is fucked up.

That is an awesome comment. And, couldn't have put it better, the bolded part.
