Thanks for bringing this up again. Associating lesbians with pink and gay men with baby blue is gender coding. The motivation behind doing this is to align with the theme of the trans flag which also uses the pink/blue/white stripes.

I see this as just a part of a broader effort to dissociate gays and lesbians from their symbols. They have already colonized and misappropriated our words (gay, lesbian, queer). And now, the rainbow flag, a symbol of the gay rights movement since 1979, has been appropriated and grafitti'd over with a giant trans triangle. As a replacement, since the rainbow no longer stands for our movement, we are given these sad pink and blue gender-coded flags.
