"A rogue state run by 16 year-olds"

I was just listening to an NPR story on social media, and the commentator closed by describing the current state of social media as (and I'm paraphrasing here) an obscenely wealthy rogue state run by 16 year-olds.

I thought this was a good way to characterize the Twitter/Reddit/Facebook mobs that run around enforcing orthodoxies such as gender ideology and demanding that anyone who disagrees with them be silenced.

And somehow the internet is overpopulated by self-important pubescent boys who think they know everything and tired stay at home moms who follow along with what they think is authoritative, tending to accept official stories if they don't want to get accused of telling old wive's tales. The people whose work is socially engaged and out in the world (until recently) can judge who is saying what but online it gets muddled...
