Thanks for putting this out there. I filled it out and it only took about five minutes. They can deal with my homosexuality in their TQ data now.

Well said. 😆

Keep an eye out for what? Actual same-sex attracted people like myself filling out your survey and telling you we don't want to be called queer?

Amazing comment. You might disagree from us, but if you're gonna make a survey with "LGBTQ+" don't pretend we don't exist just because we don't fit your narrative.

It reminds me of the Boystown situation. They made a survey and most people decide to keep the name Boystown... But they changed it anyway. If you're gonna be arbitrary about it then making a survey is irrelevant, because you're just gonna ignore the survey anyway.

It's also bizarre because they can't decide if they're the most oppressed or the most accepted group ever. Often they'll say that they're most oppressed than anyone else. But when they see statistics like "only X% of gay men would date a transman" they claim that actually all gay men would date them and it's just a dozen of TERFs trolling the statistics.

In question about "queer" I wrote that in my country it is still used as slur against homosexuals, so I prefer no one using it and not using it myself to call anyone.

This "researcher" posted their survey to

r/actuallesbians

r/asexuality

r/AskAsexuals

r/bisexual

r/pansexual

r/aromantic

I guess they don't want responses from gay people.

The survey results are going to be skewed heavily anyway, towards redditors (generally young, extremely online, and politically activist). Doesn't sound like good survey practice at all.

Surveys like this should be applied personally and not on the internet period.

This is shitty methodology at it's finest.

I couldn't agree more. I got a sociology degree from a really well respected university and to see these plebs sending out their surveys online and thus with no controls is exactly why we out the social in sciences.

It's such a fucking joke lol. This kind of nonsense is where the 6492847% trans suicide rate meme came from; a poorly-made online survey that could be completed an infinite amount of times.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Trans suicide rate came from a survey of around 1000 LGBTQ+ people, from which only 27 (I think it was 27) were transgender, and 13 of them said they thought about suicide at least once. If you ask two straight men, and one of them say they want to kill themselves, it will be 50% suicide rate among straight men.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 8 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

They could straight up post survey on 4chan.

[–]blahblahgcer[S] 20 insightful - 2 fun20 insightful - 1 fun21 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's not even meant for LGBTQ+ to take, it's meant for everyone. That somehow makes it even worse.

Oh my gosh I can imagine the actualtransbians data. Just this morning they had a post about how much they love girldick. 🤢

Curious-- does anyone know who this researcher actually is? Sarah Beretta at Boston University, presumably, but they might not actually be a real researcher. I'm struggling to find anything on that name at BU.

I mention this because an undergraduate I know got in serious trouble for pretending to be a researcher endorsed by his university and posting on r/SampleSize under the name of his university. I think it's unlikely given the survey's front page mentioning the IRB and all, but worth considering.

I have submitted my "transphobic" and "homophobic" data to this survey, hope that I'm not alone because these "researches" need the slap in the face of reality that not all homosexuals about RAINBOWS, QUEERNESS, AND POSITIVITY.

Also as an intersex person, they ask what category "intersex" falls under, and the options are "Sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or do not know." NONE OF THE ABOVE, FUCKWITS, it's a MEDICAL CONDITION. In the additional info box I wrote a very long and calm explanation of what intersex is, and how misinformation like their survey can lead to discrimination against intersex people and even legal problems. I hope that whoever's doing this survey pays attention. But we all know they probably won't.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, Intersex was very weird there, and fit no checkbox.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Based on their questions I am curious if the survey was looking to see if people knew the answers rather than what they thought of each thing.

Like perhaps it was going to be declaring how "knowledgeable" the participants were.

[–][deleted] 23 insightful - 2 fun23 insightful - 1 fun24 insightful - 2 fun -  (10 children)

I really hate how they lump gender non-conforming people and nonbinaries together. Yes I'd date a GNC person, no I'm not dating a snowflake with they/them or neopronouns.

[–]Constantine 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Hopefully my response (as well as many others from GC people) will show them that GNC and non-binary are NOT the same thing.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

In transgender theory it is the same thing. If non-conforming by any means (homosexual, playing with dolls as man, wearing masculine cloths as woman) people exist - then whole transgender theory can not work, so they are putting those people into gender boxes, or trying to erase meaning and fit into the box (like "homosexual is someone who is attracted to the same gender, not to the same sex").

[–]Constantine 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Yes, but the survey divides these things up so you don’t have to answer that way. It asks you whether you are attracted to “gender” or “sex,” and the gender shit is separate from GNC presentation. So hopefully they see this data and realize not everyone’s on the stupid bandwagon, though I’m not holding my breath.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

They posted survey in mostly transgender spaces, so most likely they wanted survey to push their narrative, or at least someone who is responding for posting surveys is.

[–]Constantine 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, of course, but it can’t hurt to try and show them that their narrative is wrong. Most of these people just assume the “community” is homogenous and have never had this view challenged.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree.

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Same. I put in a note in basically every free text field that being GNC doesn't make a person nonbinary or trans.

[–]BiHorror 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I mean... Not to burst anyone's bubble, but if you search up GNC, genderqueer/non binary does come up for it. Just so happens, the same broad who created the term is the same person who coined genderqueer... So it does make sense for it to be the same thing, because that's what she intended it to be. Only difference is those who call themselves "NB" specifically, do the whole pronoun and gender identity bullshit.

So silly to be concerned about certain relevant groups finding the survey. If it interferes with the results, then a random sample of people should have been used instead.

[–]Cicerosolo 17 insightful - 5 fun17 insightful - 4 fun18 insightful - 5 fun -  (1 child)

I wrote this in the comment box of the survey:

This is a very poorly put together survey. Whilst I would never impugn the respected and famous reputation of Noston University I would really query whether this was put together by trained sociologists or a pack of undergrads. You question whether people accept certain terms early in the survey then use those words repeatedly, you use words with very little definition outside of Canada and America like gender expression without first identifying these terms or giving people an opportunity to reject these terms as unsuited for them (this occurs very often in your study). Not a bad first draft but please don't take your study to the rest of the world, I wouldn't want people to laugh at Noston University.

[–]Constantine 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I hope it was put together by undergrads, given the vague and undefined nature of many of the questions. But knowing how sociology is as a field these days, I would not be surprised if the study was conducted by tenured professors.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 16 insightful - 5 fun16 insightful - 4 fun17 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

Random sample of people will give "wrong" resuls than group of people of needed mindset.

"Survey has shown that 100% of people on Earth are using internet. Survey was held on internet-site rigged.yes"

[–]blahblahgcer[S] 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

As a detransitioned person, this was a hard survey to fill out because they didn't have options for me. Especially when they asked if "queer" is a sexual or gender orientation.

Of course, my response will probably be flagged as some troll hateful response. But I figured maybe some more lgb people responses couldn't hurt.

[–]bopomofodojo 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That one pissed me off. I wrote "A slur" when asked what "queer meant to me" below it.

[–][deleted] 12 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. I went ahead and filled it out too.

[–]braveandstunning 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I filled it out and I wrote that they should have asked about discrimination based on me being a female/my biology and not only because of sexual orientation and gender expression for god's sake.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's just multiple choice but the questions are clearly designed from the perspective that gender is some kind of internal brain sex and not just a socially defined caste.

[–]BiHorror 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good God... This is why I hate the separation between sex and gender. It creates illogical shit like this.
