Hold up, now I'm getting confused: What's the difference between libfem, GC (fem), and radfems? And what do they stand for? Becuase as far as I know anyone who disagrees with TRA bullshit, they're considered Terfs.

And what do users on here say that is considered "radfem"?

Libfems believe in things like sex work is work, sex positivity, gender idealogy (think your transwomen are women type beliefs) and generally believe it is the gender identity of women that makes them oppressed. Radfems believe that it is biological sex (female) that makes women oppressed EDIT: removing this, I was mistaken (thus males are always the oppressor) and criticize what they believe are patriarchal concepts such as marriage, sex work, sometimes sex itself, and they consider gender idealogy to be an extension of the patriarchy because they believe it reinforces oppressive sex roles that they are fighting against. Gender Critical is kind of a hard one for me to define but I'd say its like radfem lite, someone could be GC but not believe in all of radfem beliefs. But I'd say basically its people who disagree with gender idealogy for feminist reasons.

Men are always oppressors is more like an extreme form of it. Radical feminism surely is about the reality of a sexism in male dominated society and the discrimination that sex differences creates at women disadvantage. Criticizing a system is very different than saying all men are evil oppressors. That would be completely irrational and a very misconception of feminism

And we should not forget that not all countries are western countries as well, more like - majority aren't. And situation with both homophobia and sexism there are much worse.

In fact. Western is just a minority of the world. Women and gay oppression is the actual norm

Thanks for the clarification. I will edit my post.

Thanks for explaining! Is radfem kind of like gender essentialism, then..?

[–]Gearbeta 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

No, the opposite. They believe that gender is the way that women are oppressed and whether you are a woman or a man is solely based on your biological sex and your personality has nothing to do with that. So to them, being a woman has nothing to do with being feminine or masculine. Conservatives might say women are feminine so all women need to be feminine, a libfem says women are feminine so anyone who is feminine must be a woman(and vice versa) but a radfem says many women are feminine but a masculine woman is still a woman and does not need to be changed.

Libfem are sexists. They're base womanhood or manhood or sexist stereotype. Libfeminism is such a bs, it is like the opposite of what real feminism was always about. Feminism was found to fight discrimination of women based on that. Libfem put gender stereotypes above actual sex and compare an effeminate man to a real woman

Ah, gotcha, makes sense, thank you for clarifying!

Okay, thanks for the answer! Now just one more question: if someone was "pro" sex work or sex, would that make them a libfem? Or just as someone who might agree with a few things, as you said with GC and RadFem, but not everything else? (I ask becuase I'm pretty "pro" sex positivity depending on the topic and sex work only becuase it makes it "safer" since there's no actual way to fully stop it. Alongside, if there's women and men who actually want to do it? I'm not going to be particularly against it).

Lib fems in general are pro sex work. GC, 2nd Wave, Rad Fems opposed.

A little bit of background on the change from using the word "prostitution" to using "sex work."

Whatever nefarious force is behind this change wants to normalize the idea that selling your body for sex is comparable to say working as a waitress.

In fact, I read that in New Zealand and Germany (my memory might be incorrect) women who are on benefits are being offered sex work as a job, as if they were being offered a job as a secretary.

I also volunteered with women forced into prostitution, which is the vast majority of prostitutes worldwide. They don't call it "sex work." They don't enjoy it. It is not glamorous. They have the choice to DO IT OR DIE.

Well, I think that would make you a person with your own beliefs not necessarily a libfem or a radfem. Many people are sort of in the middle or lean one way or another.
