why is gatekeeping considered bad? by babystud in LGBDropTheT

[–]Gearbeta 28 insightful - 1 fun28 insightful - 0 fun29 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Gatekeeping is bad if done excessively, like if someone says "hey cool, you're a fan of seahawks, I am too!" And you respond with "oh yeah? Well you're not a real fan until you can tell me who the quarterback was in 1976 and how many interceptions he threw!" That's bad gatekeeping, cause knowing such info has nothing to do with being a fan of the Seahawks. it's related sure, but all he really has to do is like the team and root for them. People have confused that form of gatekeeping with having standards and boundaries. It's only bad gatekeeping when you're trying to kick out people who fit the description based on arbitrary nonsense. Sort of like... TRAs trying to say that TERFs aren't real lesbians. So lol they DO gatekeep in a way.

Bisexual enbies are hilarious because they, whether they want to recognize the truth or not, know that there are only two sexes and thus they are attracted to both sexes but can't make that work with queer nonsense and then try to change bisexual to fit whatever nonsense they believe in. It's like female "non binary lesbians", they know damn well why they aren't attracted to male "non binaries" and why lesbians are attracted to them, they just don't want to say it.

Regarding same sex adoption, ever work at a court house in the family division and see the utter dysfunction some straight couples have? I saw one man who was so mad at his ex, he paraded around naked pictures of his daughter to "prove" she was abusing her and nearly went to jail for child porn possession. Another man, again, angry at his ex stole 200000 dollars from his children's college fund and attempted to fuck off to Mexico before being caught by the feds and brought back in which he told us fuck you I hate my kids IN FRONT of them and said he would never give the money back. Cases where relatives are obviously abusing the children and parents are letting it happen. In those cases, can you REALLY say that these kids would be worse off with loving same sex parents? People I've seen who work in social work see worse shit than this and they agree, it's less about having a mom or a dad, especially if one or both is dysfunctional but about having people willing to love and care for the child and having the means to do it. If a gay couple can give a child the love and care they deserve I don't see why that should be prevented especially given the situation many children would be stuck in. There's not enough people willing to adopt right now especially if the child is a little older or a minority baby. So, many times, you wouldn't be taking away a child's chance to be adopted by a normal couple, that child might not get to be adopted ever and would stay in the system.

What you're saying isn't really proof that same sex desire exists in everyone. Like I believe that there are probably more bisexuals(the kinsey .9s and the 5.9s) than we think, but that doesn't mean that everyone is bi or has the potential for same or opposite sex desire. So in the times of Sparta etc, it might have been more accepted for those already bi people to express their bisexuality. And I'm not even talking scientifically here, I'm just talking about what people say about the subject. There's some research and some ignorant people who seem to believe that all women are bi or "don't have a sexuality" as I saw one guy say, but I've met women who were 100% straight. One girl wouldn't even kiss another girl for 200$ because the thought disgusted her so much. "Ugh, it would be like kissing my mom, no offense" was what she said to the proposal. Most men report no sexual attraction to other men. I mean, I think its kind of rude to respond to a person telling you "I'm not attracted to these people" with, "you could be/you are its just society saying otherwise". Its remarkably close to TRA arguments.

Also, NO opposite sex desire is NOT grounded in male domination or female slavery. Straight people's sexual desire is for the opposite sex regardless of how they feel about sex stereotypes. Many straight women don't like being dominated sexually and prefer sex to be more equal between partners yet they are still straight. They go and find men willing to accommodate them, they don't go to having sex with women. And the rare cases of submissive straight dudes I've seen would rather stay celibate than fuck another man.

Yeah, this doc is total nonsense. There's just way too much in there about being disappointed in or scared of relationships with men and well, unfortunately, that's extremely common with straight/bisexual women. But it's not a sign that you're a lesbian otherwise, most women would be lesbians. It really is a simple matter of sexual attraction, can really just be boiled down to, when you see men have you ever gotten a crush on one or wanted to have sex with one? When you see a woman have you ever gotten a crush on one or wanted to have sex with one?

Bringing back gender nonconformity by HelloMomo in LGBDropTheT

[–]Gearbeta 30 insightful - 1 fun30 insightful - 0 fun31 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So, it wasn't that people just decided to divorce gender nonconformity with homosexuality, it was that for a time, there was a lot of effort put into being against stereotypes all together. When I was growing up, it was, your daughter's a tomboy now but this doesn't necessarily mean she will grow up to be a lesbian. And this was also being done at a time where people were being told girls can do anything boys can, all children should be able to play with any toy they want, etc etc. This has kind of reversed itself in recent times and I do believe that trans people are ultimately responsible for this.

What I think is happening is that because trans women are saying what they think makes them women are getting a lot of media attention, this has made its way back down to the rest of society and because their views of what women are are so warped, everyone else's views of women get warped too. You see transwomen saying how they knew they were women because they loved high heels, or being submissive or they loved make up or hated sports, so now what happens if you're a young woman who hates that stuff or loves sports? Easy. You're just not a woman any more! In a sense, TRAs have expanded what gender non conformity is, because it doesn't fit their own vision of what a women is.

As for butches and feminine guys, I believe they are transitioning because the trans movement is essentially telling you "you are too masculine to be a women so you might as well be a man" or "you are too feminine to be a man so you might as well be a woman". Less to do with the correlation of being gender non conforming with being gay and more to do with the trans rights movement having extremely rigid gender roles. The erasure of gay people is a bonus.

And the fact that this idiot has put up with people doing it to her and wants to make others do it as well is so disgusting. How do you put up with being used as someone else's sex toy (multiple times!!!), have a terrible time, and then turn around and say "yes, this is what I want others to go through."? To be quite frank, one of the things that would help a lot is dropping the TQ+ and reasserting ourselves as functioning normal members of society. I've spoken to people from these homophobic countries and they tell me a big part of why it is so hard to change their laws is because they look to the western world as a template for what would happen if they legalized being gay and they don't like what they see. To a lesser extent, this does also apply to women's rights. They see all the problems we see with TQ+ and apply it to the rest of LGBT and say to themselves "well if we legalize homosexuality, we too will end up with all their problems".

Yeah I wouldn't use compulsory heterosexuality either, most of the concepts it talks about are mental gymnastics so straight or bisexual women can dismiss legitimate attraction to men so they can pretend to be lesbians. There's a comp het master doc that says things like "do you have crushes on fictional male characters or male celebrities or otherwise unattainable men?" As one of the things that suggests you're a lesbian. Or having a previous male partner come out as a transwoman as a sign you're a lesbian.

Yeah. I remember when it used to be "no means no" and enthusiastic consent was encouraged(instead of just putting up with garbage sex, how many times have TRAs suggested that to gays and lesbians) and sex positivity was meant to deal with religious based repression. And now all of the things that were supposed to be positive influences have become twisted and are used to attempt to force others into doing what someone else wants them to do. Like on Twitter a while back I saw a screenshot of a guy saying that a woman was antifeminist for not sending him nudes because that wasn't sex positive and meant she was ashamed of her body.

I have to disagree with this: " Aren't children's attraction the most honest representation of their sexuality before they become older and have homophobic rhetoric instilled in them?"

Because I can't agree that children's attraction is an honest representation of their sexuality. Many people have no sexual attraction to anyone at all before puberty and almost none of them go on to be asexual as adults. As for children who do have crushes, I would question whether ANY crush, straight or gay was real, prepuberty. Teens most certainly have the ability to have crushes and legitimate relationships etc so I would say if you are crushing on men/boys as a teen then you are, at least a little bisexual.

Its because being considered LGBT became trendy, women being into other women is hot to males so straight girls will do it to turn on their male partners. Radfems who are pissed at straight dudes for often being awful partners pretend to be lesbians to escape what they think is inevitable shitty relationships with men. Also people know that gays and lesbians are oppressed and playing the victim is a very powerful force in today's society. Some people treat marginalized status as a "Get out of jail free" card when it comes to responsibility. We see this all the time when it comes to trans people. What I find interesting is that while being LGBT is considered trendy, actually being homosexual still isn't so most of the straight pretenders do so in a way so they won't ever have to have physical contact with the same sex. So they claim to be queer, or bi, or demisexual

I'd like to add the argument many TRAs make about inclusiveness. While not strictly a lesbian thing I think this affects us because it seems that in recent times the very concept of having an exclusive group is wrong or bigoted, even if it makes perfect sense to do so. TRAs want to call us cis and then say "well your women's group didn't explicitly say only cis women so I can come in as a transwoman!" but then forbid us from making a group for cis women because thats exclusive! That's bad! And then they protest against those groups for being "bigoted" because apparently now all exclusive groups are bigoted.

Other arguments I've seen, people claiming you don't need to use your genitals to have sex, people asking you to be in a sexless relationship for the sake of transwomen, people saying that women inherently don't enjoy sex with/are attracted to men (bonus points if its a man saying this and he then follows up with "well no woman I've been with has ever enjoyed sex"), historical revisionist arguments (Sappho was bi, bis were always considered lesbians, etc etc)

Now, I'm not denying that lesbians are oppressed, this isn't a linear thing. While gay men are men and have privilege related to that, they also still suffer the most hate crimes of any other lgbt group.(https://ucr.fbi.gov/hate-crime/2017/tables/table-1.xls) As for bisexuals, I managed to find the article they were talking about (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165032720325489) and I'm not sure what to think about this. I mean, mental health isn't always a good indicator of how hard someone has it, I mean, straight white middle aged middle class men have high suicide rates but they aren't systematically oppressed. And again I don't think oppression olympics is productive in any way, after all thats how we get people shouting constantly about "black trans women" but then not giving a shit about anyone else because they're just soooo privileged compared to black trans women

I don't like Lisa Diamond for a variety of reasons but to be absolutely fair, she did say this in her book about fluidity (Sexual fluidity):

If we examine correlations between women’s initial percentages of same-sex attraction (in 1995) and the size of their subsequent changes, we find a strikingly consistent pattern: the more same-sex attractions a woman reported in 1995 (and, in fact, throughout the rest of the study as well), the less her attractions changed over time, in either direction. Thus women who reported predominant or near-exclusive attractions to women in 1995 tended to remain pretty much the same. The women with more nonexclusive attractions—those who identified as bisexual or unlabeled—underwent the most sizeable shifts."

And this:

"If we use these changes in attractions to make inferences about changes in sexual orientation, we must conclude that there is not much evidence for change in orientation. The small shifts experienced by lesbians nonetheless kept them in the lesbian range, and even the sizeable shifts experienced by unlabeled and bisexual women kept them in the bisexual range: they almost never jumped to near-exclusive same-sex attractions or plummeted down to nearexclusive other-sex attractions. Note, in particular, that the women who had reidentified as heterosexual by 2005 did not undergo much change either: they had always reported less frequent samesex attractions than the rest of the sample; they simply came to label and interpret these feelings differently over time."

And lastly this:

"The only group of women who showed extreme stability in their identity labels over time were the women who basically described themselves as being 100 percent attracted to women from the very beginning. They showed almost no identity change. So it was very clearly connected to this understanding of your own capacity for different types of attractions and behaviors over time."

So even she's saying that completely heterosexual and homosexual women exist. The point of her research was to prove that bisexual women were real and were not a phase like many people thought at the time. However many people twisted her words (and imo she let them do this or encouraged it) and used the study as proof that conversion therapy could work, or that lesbians weren't real and not much press was given to those things I quoted in her book.

Oh yeah, I'm just saying that in most of these cases, it's likely that they were actually regularly dating men (so not lesbians), and didn't just happen to find a guy out of the blue who was perfect for them like they claim.

IDK, I kind of have a hard time believing this. Because like, when you look at an average straight person, the majority of them have to go through several dates, and several relationships before they find someone they click with. The likelihood that someone who isn't all that attracted to the opposite sex would just happen to find the right guy right off the bat at the frequency that they do (because there's a lot of people who claim to be "lesbians with exceptions") and the time that they do (seems to happen a lot in the late 20s early 30s) when normal straight people have trouble doing this, make me believe that they're not being honest about their dating history. And I personally have seen many "lesbians with exceptions" who regularly dated men in the past. Maybe some of these people were clueless bisexuals who really did have no idea that they were attracted to men until ~that one special~ guy showed up but for a lot them I think they're just people lying about their sexuality.

Exclusively homosexual animals? by RedditHatesLesbians in Lesbians

[–]Gearbeta 21 insightful - 3 fun21 insightful - 2 fun22 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

There's a book from 2000 called Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity that has data on this very subject. And yeah, many animals are functionally bisexual or homosexual for part of their lives and then mate with the opposite sex, then go back to being homosexual, there are recorded instances of individuals of a species refusing to have sex with a member of the opposite sex, choosing only to mate with the same sex. So they're gay. Some excerpts from the book:

Bonobos: "In addition, females have sometimes been observed consistently ignoring males soliciting them for sex, preferring instead to GG-rub with each other."

Chimpanzees: "However, a few individuals appear to be more exclusively homosexual: one female, for example, refused to mate with males and was only involved with other females for many years" (This one did eventually mate with males but still there were some like this that never did)

Macaques: "In other troops, though, some females are exclusively lesbian, engaging in sexual interactions only with females: in these cases, an average of 9 percent of females are homosexual, 56 percent bisexual, and 35 percent exclusively heterosexual."

Red Fox: "Many female Red Foxes that mount other females may be exclusively same-sex oriented, since such younger or lower-ranking individuals usually do not mate with males. For some females, this homosexual orientation may be longlasting—perhaps even continuing for a female’s entire life—since as many as 50–70 percent of vixens never leave their home groups to begin breeding on their own."

IKR. Honestly if they're that scared, they should do what women(and actually everyone does) when meeting a date for the first time and meet in public and say that shit there. Or say it on the dating website you met on. Am I really supposed to believe that if they disclosed their trans status in like a Starbucks somewhere that the person they were meeting would flip out and beat them to death? In front of everyone? Broad daylight attacks are incredibly rare even in complete shitholes of places. Or if they disclosed it on the internet that the person they were talking to would what? Reach through their screen and attack them via the internet?

What I think is happening is that they have convinced themselves, after years of bullshit, that hurt feelings are literal violence. What is likely to happen if they disclosed as a reasonable time like within the first few meetings or online is that the other person would politely but awkwardly excuse themselves and that would make them feel bad so this must be avoided at all costs. Including their own deaths.

Hm. There might be an equivalent among women, but Mosier's study didn't prove it. Also, reminds me of the extremely weird sub called something like r/ftmpunished where transmen sometimes get off to being... feminized... Or forcibly told they are girls. Which is weird because they're already female. So I think whatever is happening there might be similar to AGP. But there's no studies done on them and probably won't be ever so who knows.

I've heard of this happening with transmen more than transwomen. When a transman will date nothing but other transmen, its pretty obvious that they are a lesbian. I haven't heard of this happening so much with transwomen though, seems like the ones attracted to men go for straight men and the ones attracted to women go for lesbians.

But IDK, I'm 29 rn from the US and when I was your age I definitely felt what you're feeling, it seemed like most of the girls in school had the same over-processed beauty look and not only did I not want to look like that, I felt like I couldn't look like that even if I wanted to. (because I was like the only black kid in the class) But I feel like as I've gotten older its easier to be more relaxed about things, you can choose your own style that suits you whether that be feminine or not. I'm mostly a low maintenance type of woman but I'll wear a dress or make up if the occasion really needs it but otherwise never wear it. But maybe things have changed since I was younger.

There's more to biological sex than just genitals. So like if a biological male somehow loses his penis, the rest of his body is still male. So lesbians and straight males wouldn't be attracted to him. And this very point really bothers TRAs because they can't, or more accurately refuse to, understand it. Speaking as a lesbian, I'm attracted to the female body, including the feeling of their skin, the shape of their hips, breasts, even things like what their hands look like and of course, the vagina. In contrast, a male's entire body is a turn off even if he has no penis. And despite what TRAs claim transition does not get rid of all these traits. So thus, in your example of a transwoman who had SRS, whoever has sex with them is having sex with a male and would be straight, gay or bisexual accordingly. The sex act doesn't matter, only the biological sex of the individuals matter.

While white women who call the police for no reason on people absolutely should be ridiculed and punished, there is a very real problem with people attempting to use the term "Karen" to unfairly target women. For example, this person saying that we should use the term "Karen" for women who contact HR regarding sexual harassment. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EcHk5fSXgAAavMy?format=jpg&name=large) which is really not the direction we should be going with the term "Karen". I think it's fair to call people out for being a crybully but we should absolutely be wary of people trying to co opt our legitimate grievances for malicious purposes.

Women can't have AGP because the definition of AGP excludes them. That's not to say that a woman couldn't be aroused by her own body, just that whatever she had that made that possible wouldn't be AGP. Its sort of like you know how TRAs like to say that gay people have a "genital fetish"? Well that inherently is not possible since the definition of the word "fetish" excludes genitals.

As for the research paper I was talking about here's an interview where Ray Blanchard talks about it https://quillette.com/2019/11/06/what-is-autogynephilia-an-interview-with-dr-ray-blanchard/ And here is a criticism of the paper that claimed that women could experience AGP https://sci-hub.tw/https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00918360903445749

TLDR of the criticism the author of the study was comparing things like women getting aroused by wearing sexy clothing like lingerie to AGP transwomen getting aroused by putting on a women's T-shirt. Or comparing women getting aroused by preparing for an upcoming sexual encounter with AGP transwomen getting arousing from putting on make up to walk out of the house.

To answer your question, sometimes you just click better friendship wise with men. Most of my friends are men because I have hobbies that are dominated by men. The few women I met in my hobbies there, were either not interested in being friends with me or were not interested in the hobby because they were dragged there by someone else. I don't think being a lesbian means you shouldn't or can't have male friends.

I'm just going to add on to this, while I'm not a scientist, I did go to grad school for a hard science so reading scientific papers is something we did a lot. And even in hard sciences it wasn't uncommon to see poor research papers being done. In the case of TRAs theres many scientific papers that are supposed to be peer reviewed but have obvious glaring flaws. For example, there's a paper that's I believe peer reviewed about biological women having AGP. The author ignored the fact that by definition, this is not possible (because to have AGP you cannot be female) and the author also didn't ask questions that were AGP equivalents. Just recently, a paper got through peer review about how transitioning helps the mental health of trans people and several letters to the editor proved that even the most surface level analysis of the paper's own data did not come anywhere close to supporting their conclusion. That study that TRAs will often quote about how transwomen after a year on hormones are equivalent to biological women in terms of athetlic ability's data came from transwomen who self reported their own strength. So can't really be trusted. Gender studies has a real problem with poor and biased research coming out of that field and the fact that many of these people will protest against research doesn't help either.

And modern bisexuals are trying to use that to act like they belong with /deserve to be called lesbians/terms exclusive to lesbians despite some/most of them only being interested in men and only slightly being attracted to women. I won't lie, I'm highly critical of trans idealogy due to current events. We're at the point where I'm even skeptical of scientific studies done on them because of poor methodology and crappy data being allowed and presented as the end all be all of the debate. I'm sure there are people who have severe dysphoria but at this point, I cannot trust that transitioning is the best course of action for them because there is just so much lying in the field. And of course it is not possible to change sex. It's just not and I'm tired of the lying about this. As for individual trans people, I deal with them the same way I deal with anyone else, we can disagree on things, but if you can't respect me as a person including my boundaries then I'm done with you. And given some of my internet interactions, some of them simply cannot do this.

No, the opposite. They believe that gender is the way that women are oppressed and whether you are a woman or a man is solely based on your biological sex and your personality has nothing to do with that. So to them, being a woman has nothing to do with being feminine or masculine. Conservatives might say women are feminine so all women need to be feminine, a libfem says women are feminine so anyone who is feminine must be a woman(and vice versa) but a radfem says many women are feminine but a masculine woman is still a woman and does not need to be changed.

Libfems believe in things like sex work is work, sex positivity, gender idealogy (think your transwomen are women type beliefs) and generally believe it is the gender identity of women that makes them oppressed. Radfems believe that it is biological sex (female) that makes women oppressed EDIT: removing this, I was mistaken (thus males are always the oppressor) and criticize what they believe are patriarchal concepts such as marriage, sex work, sometimes sex itself, and they consider gender idealogy to be an extension of the patriarchy because they believe it reinforces oppressive sex roles that they are fighting against. Gender Critical is kind of a hard one for me to define but I'd say its like radfem lite, someone could be GC but not believe in all of radfem beliefs. But I'd say basically its people who disagree with gender idealogy for feminist reasons.

I think what we call "radical feminism" now has become more of an anti-TRA/libfem movement and less of what radical feminism used to be. I wouldn't say either is more extreme (old school radfem beliefs include IIRC things like heterosexual intercourse is inherently non-consensual). And you're certainly right that if TRAs were less extreme they would just be run of the mill libfems. But can we really say we, LGB people are any different? I mean, many gay men were completely silent on the issues happening regarding TRAs sexually harassing lesbians until transmen started doing it to them. And many lesbians didn't believe other lesbians about TRAs canceling them for not being into dick until it happens to them or they see it live in action. If TRAs were less extreme, we might not even have the droptheT movement at all. But then, if TRAs were less extreme, there might not have been a need for a droptheT movement or for radical feminism to resurge. Either way, I think that LGBdroptheT should distinguish itself from radfems so even if TRAs adamantly refuse to see the differences, we will know there is a difference and can establish boundaries between the two groups for better interactions.

Or like how r/detrans is considered by many TRAs to be a "terf sub" despite them making a great effort to call out radfems trying to derail conversations.

And to be honest we're not caught in a war between two feminism idealogies. We are being almost exclusively attacked by libfems and TRA idealogy. It is they who believe we don't have the right to sexual boundaries and should put ourselves through self conversion therapy so we can fuck them. Radfems don't do this. It is libfems and TRAs who trans young GNC kids not radfems.

And libfems and TRAs started the fight with radfems. Most radfems would have been okay with trans people but then they started invading rape shelters, invading women's sports, changing the language to erase women, transing kids sometimes against the will of the parents, transing kids by enabling homophobic parents (see that lady that beat the shit out of her gay son and then transed him to be a girl). Radfems are defending the hardwon rights of women. And quite frankly I'd say that the current incarnation of radical feminism is a creation of libfems. It's women pushing back against them.

Now I'm not going to say radfems are all great, they have a real problem with people pretending to be lesbians when they're not just because they're mad at men, or saying absolutely terrible shit about men (I saw on Tumblr a radfems proudly proclaiming she would abort any male fetus... ) But so far they have been one of the only groups to consistently fight against TRA nonsense.

Have you had anyone question you for your stance on dating trans people? by reluctant_commenter in Lesbians

I think it's less they legit think women are all bisexual and more they don't give a shit what women say about their own sexuality. I've seen legit discussions on the internet where men honestly believed that no women were attracted to men. So then straight/bi women came into the thread and said yes we are attracted to them and these dudes said they didn't believe them. Ooh man TRAs being racist... It's legit like their most cherished past time at this point aside from being homophobic and misogynistic. Just ask the black ladies on LipstickAlley how they feel about arguments like "if black women can be considered women, then transwomen should be considered women"

There was some study done on "latinx" and it was like over 90% of Latino people hated the term. And "x" just isn't pronounced that way in spanish to its even more of pushing english nonsense on them.

It really is amazing how they have the audacity to tell people to be kind as they're demanding things from other people.

Can be important in some cases to maintain anonymity such as in cases say where being gay is illegal and punished by death. So having a safe and anonymous space for them is important. And weird shit happens on the internet and has its fair share of crazies so getting your address put out there could mean actual physical danger to you.

Explained here: https://mobile.twitter.com/mentalhellcat/status/1288947357393059840

Simply put, he would attack subs by having people go there and infiltrate it and have them post rule breaking things, or worst case literal child porn. Then he would have people report these post that he orchestrated and the sub would get banned.

BardFinn is a piece of shit and you reap what you sow. He was so much of an asshole he had people post child porn to subs he didn't like to get them banned. I don't feel bad for him in the slightest.

Well you know if travel was a thing I'd invite you to a game! Baseball games are actually pretty cheap since there's usually a lot of games in a season. They're a lot of fun if you go with friends.
