This is the position of James Cantor and some other sexologists. Their reasoning is that therapy & support will reduce pedophiles' chances of acting on their urges/attractions/fantasies, but pedophiles will never seek help for the condition if they are too ashamed to admit they have it & have grounds to fear they will be considered/called sick, vile, disgusting and so on. I'm not saying that's my view. It's the view I've heard from Cantor and others.

Where this view falls apart is that there seem to be a whole lot of men in the world who have sexual attractions, fantasies and proclivities that are harmful or potentially harmful, deadly even, and feel no shame about them at all. Coz there's something very wrong with them, and they are missing parts of the psyche and a sense of personal responsibility that most human beings have. Reminds me of the end scene in the TV movie about the Green River Killer where the cop who's been seeking and investigating the killer for decades finally gets to ask him, "What's the difference between a guy like you and a guy like me?" And the killer answers, "Caring."
