Sorry - "her" comes directly from the paper's title. I myself would never use "her" to describe a male.

As someone with experience in writing headlines and photo captions in the days of print, I can attest that there's no reason for the Mail to have used a pronoun at all. The headline could just as easily said

Transgender activist jailed for killing boyfriend and trying to rape shop assistant...

BTW, it should be noted that this story is from Feb 2018, so more than 3 years ago now.

I can't believe a violent offender is being allowed to speak for ANYthing, regardless if it's a speech on prisoner treatment or not. Murder can in rare occasions be "excused" (self defense, temp. insanity, accident), rape can never be.

He attempted to rape a woman so he could go back to jail and have his surgery covered by the government. If that isn't a euphemism for what trans "women" are doing to women in society today, dunno what is.
